Arthur Lee and Love, Live at the Whisky featuring Bryan MacLean, The Complete Show is available in digital download format at Amazon, iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody, etc. This is the first time all the songs performed can be heard. Backup band is John Sterling, George Suranovich and Kim Kesterson. Bryan sings Old Man and The Happy Song. Arthur sings all his hits and more. Recorded in 1978. |

Thanks, Torb. A very nice acoustic version by Bryan....quite different. The tempo changes are nice, and Bryan's reading is very sensitive and emotional. I wonder if this is a demo from the 60's or a later reading?
Love it. I wonder if it will be on vinyl &/or CD...hopefully not just digital d/ls.

Great version of one of my favourite songs.
I've always found it difficult to believe that Bryan hadn't enough good songs to satisfy Jac Holzman for a solo album after he left the band. |

Bryan admitted himself he wasn't ready (emotionally; & was into some heavy "meds") and had said himself, he was pretty messed up....maybe Jac sensed that too.

the limited amount of fame that Bryan achieved on the Strip seems to have been more than enough
don't know if any record projects (with Elektra? for Columbia) in the 60s ever came off |

How about the group at the Whiskey in 66 or the rumoured sound board tape from 68 or have .... I Just Woke Up From A Dream ........
Can,t believe with all the tapes of gigs from from 60s west coast groups that have turned up recently that nothing, nada , has come from the original LOVE by way of boots.
By the way what is the full track listing for the above concert with Arthur and Bryan, I have the picture disc I bought in the early 80s gonna get it out and have a listen.

I think its on the site?
Bryan and Arthur seem to have played at the Old Waldorf, in addition to the Whisky. The sound quality I have on my copy of the late 70s Love at the Old Waldorf is ok
I'm more intrigued by the Bryan Maclean Band opening for Arthur & Love and Arthur throwing a coffee at him
I guess Love by that time was a ****ing shambles. You hear stories of Arthur abandoning the stage during the endless opening number (One) and going across the street to get a carton of buttermilk
I'm sure if you've read the Castle you're familiar with the tales |

I am more intrigued by the music than anything else. Torben's gig list states that Arthur played at The Whisky 3 times in October 1978 . This would suggest at least 3 sets (but possibly 6 sets) , so I doubt if it is the complete show (especially as the cover only says October 1978 , and not a specific date) . I will check if I have any recordings on cassette! Some friends of mine saw Bryan and Maria play in LA around 1980 . |
