This may surprise some, not me, that this group would compose a song for humanity. They were/are the bad boys, the devil, Lucifer, etc. A brilliant song for the common man.

A great wealth of benevolence has always been hallmark among classic rock philosophy. While entertainment values in this arena have always been first consideration among most noted artists in this field,in the sixties, there existed shared visions of a far more compassionate and nurturing world order of liberated optimisms with music as the chief conveyor of boldly stated political platitudes that in turn lent much intellectual and spiritual fortitude to the era's burgeoning social revolutions.Folk artists such as Baez and the gleemingly coy Mr. Dylan dared committing themselves to an idiom usually and dreadfully ignored by promoters of negativity and suffering. They cared. |

Just for the record LK, No expectations and Salt of the Earth are from Beggars Banquet, not Sticky Fingers. |

That's absolutely right Rocker. Bad boys they were, but Arthur ended his concerts with these words, "Love one another" and i believe he meant it. |

I know this may be way out but I've always been intrigued about seemingly random coming togethers bring about extraordinary results. If you ask me the meeting of Bryan with Arthur gave them a destiny for a particular period of time. I don't know. Maybe at the time they weren't conscious of how say religious or philosophical they both were in their approaches to life. But for some reason it all eventually coalesced into producing some great music which regardless of their intent presented a philsophy of working with the world and other people. With the band, we got to know what's important when it comes to living. |

Always been curious,LK.Never did hear "Banquet" in its entirety.I know I may risk losing membership over this one,but I also haven't had the pleasure of giving full listenings to "Exile on Main St." or "Sticky Fingers".And actually,"Street Fighting Man" was very much an accurrate message for members of the peace generation. It made the world aware that despite every oppurtunity to become lavishly awashed in the glories of their own fame, the Stones chose wisely as any one of signifacant conscientiousness would to make the world aware that they were fully cognizant of any measurable social dissent and were willing as responsible purveyors of media to facilitate their mode of communication for the better of common good. Also,I think its cool. |

Captain - re the Stones. Aftermath (UK version) was for many years my favourite. But now that honour goes to Beggar's Banquet...especially songs like No Expectations, Stray Cat Blues and Prodigal Son. It took a long time for Exiles to be recognised as one of their most important works, but like you I've never been able to get into it. I was often uncomfortable with the Warhole cover for Sticky Fingers. But when Jimmy Webb (one of my favourite songwriters) referenced it favourably in one of his compositions, I decided that it was alright to play it! And I have to say, it is definitely one of their best. |

As a soft protest number,"Imagine" is thoroughly true to its benevolent intentions as it is delivered in an altruistic yet unpretentious manner that may suggest the serenity of some newly instituted Utopian state of mind and man. While "Revolution" is an all out attack on the the overbearing negativity and apathies involved in imperialisitic military maneuvers and unjust political agendas,"Imagine" conjures many loving avenues of hopeful agressions. |

Youngbloods definitely recorded the ...definitive version. I have the fine album too...their first three, including the third: Elephant Mountain especially, are masterworks.
Good one, mk.
