I've just noticed this on Spin's website. (These days, Spin's pages do take a moment or two to load....but it will definitely be worth it!)

Johnny Rogan also contributes to the latest Mojo'60s special edition (see separate thread). His illustrated essay analyses those forces which broke up the original Byrds but which at the same time helped to make their music so innovative and visionary.

I returned home this afternoon to find this massive tome waiting for me - courtesy of Amazon. The work follows the structure of Rogan's 1996 Byrds biography Timeless Flight Revisited. But it has been hugely expanded so as to include the following:

1. A thorough track by track reappaisal of each album

2. An analysis of the mid 60s cultural and musical ferment in America and the UK that somehow helped to give rise to The Byrds

3. Additional interview material that has come to light more recently

4. Reflections on those members of The Byrds' extended family who have passed on since the last book

5. Detailed examination of the final four CDs in Sony's ambitious expanded release programme....as well as the recent box sets

6. An extensively updated bootleg discography

AND - get this......The earlier book was 720 pages long. The new one is 1200 - and it is only Volume 1. A second volume will look in much more depth at the solo careers of all the band members.

Looks good..I'll get it too...At this time I'm just wondering if perhaps we cojld get a good dvd (maybe blu-ray with great sound??) on the Byrds. I have one on the Burritos but not the Byrds. I'd be currious to know if there one out there that's expansive as the books is on the group.
