Always been a little biased regarding "Have you ever been north of Morro Bay?" in "California Saga," since it's pretty much my backyard they're singing about here. California's central coast as a whole is without a doubt one of the sweet spots on the planet... |

Here is the complete California Saga...
That whole 3 song "saga" is just so fine...referring to Country Joe is a cool shout out in "California"--that last song has such a fine California feel...pure Beach Boys.
We used to camp in your are a lot back in the 70s' when I was in college in Phoenix, Rick. We took every break on the central coast of California. As far away from LA as we could get!

The Boys were awfully homesick during their stay in Holland...hence this great piece was realized! _____________________________________________ Don't you know there ain't no devil, There's just god when he's drunk.

Beach Boys: Rehearsal session 1967

http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2011/09/16/the-beach-boys-rehearsal-session-1967/
"Dug reading all of your thoughts on the upcoming Beach Boys SMiLE sessions earlier this week. After posting it, a deluge of emails came in requesting that I re-post the Beach Boys rehearsal sessions that have popped up on AD a couple of times since 2005. So, in lieu of uploading each of the tracks separately, I’ve bundled the session in a zip file in hopes it will be around for a while to download…you know, for ‘posterity.’ Tracklist and DL link after the jump." aquariumdrunkard.com

THE SMILE SESSIONS--SHOULD THEY BE RELEASED? by aquarium drunkard

(I just love this pic of Brian conducting the vocals here...pointing "higher"...lk)
"We all knew this day would eventually come, it was only a matter of time. Earlier this month it was announced the sessions from the Beach Boys fabled Smile sessions would finally see an official release — and in grand fashion. Next month Capitol is releasing Smile via a variety of formats to satisfy all manner of Beach Boys fandom — from the simply curious to the obsessive. The former can pick up a two-CD version (itself boasting 40 tracks) while the latter can dig into the box set comprised of 5 CDs, vinyl, singles, etc. Sounds like fun.
I’m not going to rehash the storied history of these sessions (you can read about them, here), suffice to say that in terms of ‘lost albums’ this is something akin to the holy grail for fans. Not surprisingly most reactions have been positive, though I did find this piece via the Guardian UK interesting: Why I frown upon the Beach Boys releasing Smile. In short, the author ponders whether the sessions should in fact remain in bootleg form as they have the past 4 decades; his reasoning being that to do otherwise (an official release) might scar the experience. Personally, I’m looking forward to comparing (and contrasting) the various and sundry “fan” imaginations of Smile I’ve collected and/or happened upon over the years to what Capitol releases in October.
What do you think? Hit up the comments — do you believe they (Beach Boys/Capitol) should have left well enough alone, or are you looking forward to digging into what comes out?"
