Crystal Ship...covered by Chris Whitley.

Maybe the fact that Chris was at this time dying of lung cancer makes this an amazing and powerful cover of the DOORS classic song. So full of BLUES.

I would consider certain artists uncoverable. Ok, I know there's no such thing, as anyone can cover anyone. But if there was one it would be Jimi and if there was one uncoverable song perhaps Are You Experienced. Really, just think about the first time you heard this song. There wasn't anything like it,still isn't, and I consider it groundbreaking. What instruments were used to get that sound?
But maybe that's all the more reason to give it a shot.

And here's a guy who kind of makes his living doing covers..Bry Ferry..he's the debonair English gentleman here a bit away from his glam-rock days with Eno!!....

The record the song Foolish Things is taken from has more covers...

One of the nicest and most refreshing covers of a Beatles' classic I've heard in a long time.

I've Just Seen A Face

Lucy is one not to be missed. A folkie who rejected college, then went back to become a clinical psychologist, and finally turned back to dedicate her life to full time Americana folk -- a great talent.

Great thread and contributions, even the Bummer in the summer version which I think is one of the "best" of probably the worst tribute ever recorded! The Teenage fan clubs version of Maybe the People is even much worse!

Great Patti Smith covers LK! One of my favourite cover songs is also by Patti, Dylans Wicked messenger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqui9Mm4Y18

Patti covering Nirnana...the only way you can get me to listen to Nirvana! Patti somehow makes every song her own. I highly recommend her cover album:

A fine Bee Gees cover by Scott Matthew from Queensland (not to be confused with Scott Matthews of the UK}

Brilliant version of Gimme Shelter from Patti, LK - I notice that she turned 69 the other day. The guitar intro though seems to resemble more that from Jumping Jack Flash. I can never understand why the Stones never made it into a single - perhaps the lyrics were thought to be a little too dark....even for them. Come to think of it, their singles were almost always non-album tracks (in the UK sense) - though Aftermath was an exception.

I've always liked this version from U2 and two rather special guest vocalists:
