Essentially, sounds like the Purp did with this one the same thing Joe Cocker did with "A Little Help From My Friends".The thickly layered electric-psych approach provides miles of aural intrigue.Of course, comparison to the original is apples and oranges, but if Paul had been having the difficulties in his relationship with Peter of Peter and Gordon's sister Jane which inspired the classic just a little later on after McCartney had his initial acid experiments, just maybe there could have been a groovier Beatles' version sounding more like this one on "Sgt. Pepper"!Always an enormous fan of that trademark Deep Purple trippy electric organ. It really accentuates things over on the "Machine Head" disc. The Purp also made musical allusion, whether accidental or intnetional with the "NA NA" chorus on "Hush".Sounds an awful lot like the passage in "A Day In The Life" after McCartney "went into a dream". |

Been playing Led Zep today ..the 1st 3 albums...some nice accoustic stuff , as well as the hard rock. I liked Deep Purple, Led Zep, Rainbow, even Thin Lizzy back in the 70,s. Bad Company as well, the band that came outa Free. Lynyrd Skynyrd...oh and...Hawkwind!! i gotta admit to seeing them a few times, fact that they played the Free Festivals like Stonehenge helped!! I,ve never seen myself as liking heavy metal...BUT i liked some of the stuff Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson did in the 90,s .I saw MM at Reading .and it was some set! John 5 ( is that right?) played some great lead guitair.
O.K.....theres some of my "HEAVY" secrets.... |

I do believe Manson dooes have a great feel for what he is portending to do,but as is the case with many today who do possess true writer's soul and passion, they face the dilemma of not having many options regarding chord progressions and riffs as we are obviously living in an age where,as they say,"it's all been done(written). |

Good call Captain..alot of MM sounds like ZIGGY or T.REX riff,s among others. But for guys like us..well, we are gonna hear LOVE, VELVETS, all the great influences in anything we hear, i guess.
Marilyn Manson gives one hell of a performance though....i had taken my 13 year old son to READING ROCKS festival to see EMINEM on the day, and MM who was on before him, made the day for me. It,s great to know there are artist,s trying to get thier idea,s and art over. Even if it,s not my particular taste in Music. Back to hard rock ..i sw RORY GALLAGHER and THE IAN GILLAN BAND when i lived in Athens...and realy enjoyed them both.
I saw ALAABAMA 3 in London last month, and the 1st. band on were called "ODD SOCKS REVIVAL" who totaly rocked it with great riffs ..kinda THIN LIZZY meets LYNYRD SYNYRD...i really enjoyed them. |

Some great points...most interesting is that the Velvet Underground has been spoken of & highlighted in HEAVY METAL posts, PUNK/NEW WAVE, GRUNGE, GARAGE ROCK....ART ROCK...improve art theater....
And with so many genre cross-overs (though really a melding of all...they NEVER crossed OVER!)--the VELVETS stand alone at the top!!
How is that possible?!!.....
....LOU REED JOHN CALE Sterling Morrison Maureen Ticker Doug Yule Nico....
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!

The Velvets...I don't think there's any band other than them that describes in their onw unqiue way what New York City was and is. They had great creativity and a raw sensitivity to this crazy place. And it helped that they were MYSTERIOUS!...
And get this Moe is supposedly part of the Tea Party......she has some strong opinions about the way where the US is headed!.... |

Oh PLEASE! Not the TEA PARTY!! You know what they say...
"Be careful who you chose for your enemy, for you will come to resemble him" --Michael Ventura
or is it... "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer"
Yeah, that's it...she's just a spy! As long as they keep shooting themselves in the foot we'll be OK!

The Velvets exemplified a raw brand of emotive expression inherent in all of us really, which is what makes the music timeless in my mind. They never EVER merely pandered to whatever the contemporary moraise.Pretention and pandering are two things even Paul McCartney has been guilty of at times in his momentous career.Brutal sometimes even scathing honesty was always the Velvets strongsuit. |

That's right. Just uncompromising. One writer said all they did was show society's sickness back onto it. |

one new to me....
HARD STUFF-"BULLETPROOF" (1972)
Often regarded as one of Deep Purple's proteges, this heavy, but melodic early 70s power trio had a credible reputation of a hard-nosed, no-compromise, heavy-rocking act in the Purple vein, throughout their short-lived career. Paul Hammond had previously played with Atomic Rooster, as did John Du Cann; John Gustafson came from Quatermass.
Hard Stuff's Bulletproof is considerably heavier with thick mounds of aggressive guitar chords and lightning fast leads. The music itself is very rooted in the 70s. "Hard Stuff" is to Blairwitch Project as Led Zeppelin is to Nightmare on Elm Street, with the former being more raw, gritty, and not filtered through big production values and commercialism.
Songs on the album like the hard hitting blues fest 'Sinister Minister' or the heavy metal self-document 'Time Gambler', convey a sense of soul, strength and edginess.-avaxhome.ws

I am definitely not a big heavy metal fan. And I wouldn't put Lou Reed in this category. But I actually went to a Heavy Metal one night festival several summers ago. Almost all the music sounded the same with that heavy head banging sound. But the people were cool, especially the women, and the band members were sociable and friendly. The host, Mistress Juliya, from Fuse TV, was flashing her chest and screaming sexual things. All and all a splendid evening. |
