When I found my OUT HERE vinyl at a vintage record/vinyl shop, that little "crescent moon" sticker was already there in the upper right hand corner. I didn't want to tear the cover in order to remove it, so I left it. Now I like it...it seems to belong.

Some really wonderful stuff here, LK. As I've often mentioned, Out Here is a special favourite of mine. It is interesting to note that the UK edition (on Harvest)had a completely black and white inner gatefold.....including the Love logo! And of course the discs bore that attractive yellow and green label. The release was originally to have been on Island - but for some reason, that didn't happen. Its appearance was delayed until well into 1970...possibly to promote (and benefit from) Love's first UK/Scandinavia tour. If that was the purpose, it definitely worked.....it was the only Love album apart from Changes, to crack the Top 30 here. |

Was your Harvest album cover like the Blue Thumb release--without "LOVE/OUT HERE" font anywhere to be found?
I do love those old Harvest labels...the Blue Thumb label looks like a promo white label to the uninformed...that's what I first thought!
Really!...cracked the top 30?!! Nice! The UK fans were on the cutting edge to recognize Love at that point! USA music buyers would likely have asked, "LOVE WHO?" in 1970...or 1967 generally!!
Even at this fine forum, Out Here! has been panned so many times, I was unsure how I would react to my first listen...I was ready to not like it very much! But I love it too, John!

Yes, LK - the cover of the Harvest release was just the painting. However, there was also a second American edition (on Blue Thumb)that had the Love logo, title and full track listing in dark red lettering on the outside sleeve. In 1974-75, licensing rules about imports in the UK changed and suddenly all record shops seemed to be flooded with all manner of US pressings. For example, it was the first time The Beatles' Capitol albums had become widely available over here. It was at this time when we saw dozens of copies of the new Out Here.
I absolutely agree with you about the Harvest label. If you were on Harvest you were progressive.....left field and perhaps just a little bit daring. Those marketing guys at EMI definitely knew what they were doing....and so it gave Love some added kudos during their autumnal phase. A particular favourite of mine was Pink Floyd's Ummagumma with, once again, a magnificent gatefold sleeve. Now I've got that one in a beautifully remastered CD package....but it it doesn't have anything like the magic that the Harvest vinyl once had for me. |

I remember listening to UMMAGUMMA (what a great cover and that enormous drum kit spilling out all over the highway!!) in a friend's custom painted music room (black-light paint constellations on the ceiling--undetectable during the day!)....we were so stoned... on the music .....do the UK front sleeves have the GIGI! album cover leaning against the wall? Its a blank white square on all but the first few hundred pressings here (obviously not my record below, darn!)! I never saw one! I keep searching!
The repeated image with Floyd members in different positions was mind-blowing to us back then...a very witty concept for a rock album in those days. Big seller UMUAGUMMA was my first introduction to Pink Floyd, as the earlier classics were not well promoted over here!

Any particular controlled environment you prefer for storage to prevent warping like specific air conditioning.I certainly would be very nervous about losing ANY of THESE. |

LK - as far as I know, all UK editions carried the Gigi record sleeve. I've read that there were concerns in America about copywrite for that.
I've often believed that The Byrds' (Untitled) from the following year was inspired by the Ummagumma concept: two discs - one consisting of live old favourites and the other, of more experimental studio material. In place of the infinite regress of images on the Floyd release, the Byrds album boasts clever reverse image photography of the four band members out in the desert....but it is along the same lines. The layout of the black and white photographs on the inside of the gatefold is also very similar in each case. I know that we both salute and celebrate the legacy of two wonderful bands. |

No temp concerns....I 've had them in 100 degrees to freezing, but ALWAYS upright....library book style storage, on shelves or plastic storage boxes..and of course ...NEVER near heat sources or in the sun !! Never touch the groves when removing from sleeves, keep in protective outer plastic sleeves. Always use a newer GOOD cartridge/stylus for play on the TT!!
J(--No GIGI on UMMAGUMMA over here...both are great albums that you mention! Byrds & Floyd!

From what I've read "Ummagumma" stands as an underappreciated most certainly misunderstood project.Maybe this one ages like wine.I've heard similar things about "Atom Heart Mother",the Floyd's first British number one. |

Is the Allan of "Allan's Psychedelic Breakfast" Allan Parsons, who engineered some of the Floyd's recordings?I kind of liked some his "Project" records in the early 1980's. |
