It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea

I'm just wondering if the toastwer now thinks the jig is up. No "privacy" now for sure. It seems to be an 'event' now, a show with the paparazzi hanging around. The toaster may never put down flowers "nevermore"....

I think one year that there had been a change
chap underneath the hood had a beard or something

anyone ever figure out what happened to Poe? was he mugged, or attacked, or did his body just crap out on him?

Its a shame as it seemed that he was about to pull it all together with the new wife and was receiving kudos for "The Raven" (sadly this is before copyright so he didn't make money on his writings being reprinted!)

I'm assuming hes buried in Baltimore, where he died. Curiously his house is close by me in the Bronx and it is NOT haunted (unlike, say, the Cortlandt manor in Van Cortlandt Park!)

I think he was able to do readings before splitting to Baltimore but heaven knows how he existed much of the time

Something I found on Poe's death....

The circumstances surrounding Poe's death in Baltimore have always been unclear. He died Oct. 7, 1849, at Church Hospital, a building that has been converted to housing for the Washington Hill neighborhood. Here's how the Sun wrote about the event: DEATH OF EDGAR A. POE -- We regret to learn that Edgar A. Poe, Esq., the distinguished American poet, scholar and critic, died in this city yesterday morning, after an illness of four or five days. This announcement, coming so sudden and unexpected, will cause poignant regret among all who admire genius, and have sympathies for the frailties too often attending it. Mr. Poe, we believe, was a native of this state, though reared by a foster father at Richmond, Va., where he lately spent some time on a visit. He was in the 38th year of his age.

And a movie with John Cusak is supposed to come out this year, The Raven, about the last 5 days of his life. It's supposed to be fictionalized look. We should check it out.

I understand his stepdad Allan was really rolling in the dough

And when he died he left none to his stepson. Ouch!!

I understand they found the poor chap in the gutter, literally. Perhaps foul play? Clothes he was wearing were not his own?
