It a Tom Waits day.....for Nicholson fans everywhere.
Nicholson's a consumate storyteller. He's like a great bard. He says he knows about beauty parlors and trainyards and everything in between. You can learn a lot from just watching him open a window or tie his shoes. (Tom Waits on Jack Nicholson)

About fifteen years ago I was fortunate enough to see Sir Anthony Hopkins interviewed on stage at the Theatre Clewyd in North Wales. He was absolutely hilarious to listen to and he had a great Jack Nicholson story:
In 1976 John Gielgud and Ralph Richardson were on Broadway appearing in the Harold Pinter play No Man's Land. Jack Nicholson was in the audience and he requested afterwards that he might meet the two thespian legends. John Gielgud had apparently just seen a Nicholson movie whose title he couldn't remember - "The most marvellous film....two, three, six something..." It was soon ascertained that he meant Five Easy Pieces and so Nicholson was allowed into the dressing room. Shortly afterwards, Sir Ralph walked in and John Gielgud exclaimed - "Ah, Ralphy....could I introduce Nicholas Jackson?"
One of my all time favourite quotations is from GK Chesterton: "Thieves respect property. They merely wish to own it so that they might respect it more perfectly". |

And Jack's an honest guy: I don't want people to know what I'm actually like. It's not good for an actor. And he's "Irish" he thinks about death all the time....
And thought for the day...paraphrasing Will Rogers..

Poetry is a very dangerous word.
If you get far enough away you'll be on your way back home.
Don't you know there ain't no devil, that's just God when he's drunk.

lk..."Poetry is a very dangerous word"
You know I'm not exactly one who gravitates to "lofty" poetry but I did come across this writer Billy Collins and read some of his work. Very interesting is all I'd say! Woke this kid up!... He reminds me a bit of how Arthur put his lyrics together which develop cool thoughts. |

Those early Mothers album willed filled with wisdom...even the record liner notes were as witty as they came.
Here are a few from a favorite author of mine....Richard Brautigan...RIP.
I've always wanted to write a book that ended with the word "mayonnaise."

Thanksgiving Prayer
We return thanks to our mother, the earth, which sustains us. We return thanks to the rivers and streams, which supply us with water. We return thanks to all herbs, which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases. We return thanks to the moon and stars, which have given to us their light when the sun was gone. We return thanks to the sun, that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye. Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit, in Whom is embodied all goodness, and Who directs all things for the good of Her children.
Iroquois Prayer
