Was prison a good thing for Arthur or a bad thing?
Discuss. Give reasons for your answer!

did that guy from New Zealand ever see any jail time for lying in court to save Arthur? I mean, wasn't Arthur SEEN shooting a gun into the air? So many questions..

3 felonies and you're a lifer in California. I would like to know what his other 2 offenses were. I would also like to know who his attorney was so I can avoid him/her. Five years in the can is tough. But he didn't take off again until after his stretch. So, possibly it was kind of a good thing, at least he went out on top.

The other offenses as well as his lawyer's name are all in the book.

Arthur later confided to longtime friend Ria Berkus that even though he hated being in prison and it was the worst experience of his life, if it hadn't been for prison he'd probably be dead. He was on the path of self-destruction.

Its an interesting point. I mean, that New Zealander was an idiot to try to take "credit" for shooting off the gun in Arthurs apartment (lucky he didn't jailed for perjury!) then
Arthur was trying to pass it off as gunshots coming from the crap comedy they were watching (Three Amigos)

But when Arthur got out his music really found a resurgence, in the UK AND the US. He was doing tours where he wasn't embarrassing himself or drunk...

Prison got him clean at the least

So maybe it was good in the long run, but it must've been hell to be in. I've only been in jail for a weekend (for my driving) and it was really quite wretched. But to be in for 6 years, and to be serving that sentence when you could've gotten a plea bargain for some months... It must've been hell

So I don't know. Arthur went out on top, as he played Forever Changes in its entirety, with brass backing him up (!)

Best shows I've ever been at. Anyone go to the Warsaw shows? Man! Me and Alan Orth, in the front, and hes doing the whole album with the tijuana part on "Alone again or" - wow! he even did Baby Lemonade's "Rainbow in the storm" at that show as I recall

we all Shine On indeed

...But if Arthur had tried to do something with the original band in the early 90s, or Forever Changes book II
with the Zealander.. I don't know. I can't really see it being a success. Jail got him clean and sober, at least for a little while

How bad were the last Love shows with Arthur on the west coast? was Johnny there to witness Arthur being drunk and berating Randle?

I was at the Knitting FactoryMay 1st, 2002 , Arthur's first show as LOVE after his release. my favorite. Then UCLA ...then Henry Fonda Theater, The Wiltern (with the Zombies)....
Johnny Echols rocked out at the Fonda! 3 guitar heaven: Echols,Randal, and Lee, ...Smokestack Lightning.
The House Of Blues(L.A.) show with Echols AND Don Conka 2003 IS legendary! sorry I missed it, but enjoy the recording!

...what the world needs now...

"Prison got him clean at least"...

And some artists are just made to "suffer"...life wasn't easy for Arthur...I love Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come". I always wished he would've covered it in his second career. I think it's his theme song.

KD: I'd say a bad thing. A really, really bad thing.
One of the eeriest things I've ever encountered, was
getting correspondence from Arthur while he was in prison.

Just seeing that return address and prisoner # on the
front sent shivers down my spine. Still have them, as well
as a never before published interview - one of his only interviews
from prison apparently.

Would be great material for a book ! Maybe the next
one.

Free the cells !

KD: Pretty bad. Though historically important of course. There
were the obligatory confrontations, with Arthur wading into the crowd to silence hecklers, quite a few walk outs and demands for money back. Friction with the club owner because of this for sure.

Rusty covering for him on a few songs' lyrics / vocals. Overall musically pretty good though. Johnny was in good form as was BL as usual. Arthur was pretty bad on the 1st night, but much better on the 2nd. Which of course was his last ever gig.

It was a very cool experience though being able to open for him
again.

Free the memories !

Two personalities who always intrigue me...Arthur and Keef...
A telling quote I think from Keef who always has an opinion...

"To me, the the truth is the more you give the stronger you are. The more of a man you are. Who are you scared of? What's so scary that you've got to lock yourself up?

KD: Me three ! Killer show, as Arthur was
totally straight and on the ball.

Great version of Que Vida ' - the only time I ever
saw him play that one.

Free the songs !
