Last night I went to the Sunset Strip House of Blues to see Klymaxx w/Bernadette Cooper. Many of you may be unfamiliar with Bernadette but I had to come here to tell you that watching her perform gave me the eerie feeling that I was seeing Arthur Lee's sister.
Not only does she resemble Arthur facially, but her mannerisms, her outsized ego, her charisma, her stage craft, her fashion sense, her troubled history and comeback, and just her overall vibe made me think "This is as close to seeing Arthur again as I'll ever get in this life."
I got to visit her in the dressing room and again was reminded of so many aftershows with Arthur where, after giving everything he had out front, would wearily but politely greet his fans (or maybe not so politely depending on his mood) while waiting to get paid. As she gave me a hug, I saw so much of Arthur in her eyes.
Anyway, Bernadette is on a USA tour with Klymaxx this summer and I highly recommend her act.
