I have a couple record dealer friends and they swear by the mono version (on vinyl). The CD version may not be as pure if it's digitized. The old analog masters are amazing , though FC is at the end of the golden age of mono when the fine art is disappearing and stereo is taking over. I also swear by mono-over-stereo...Sgt. Pepper's, Surrealistic Pillow, After Bathing At Baxter's, Blond On Blond is very different, The Doors first (especially "The End"!!), The Byrds "Younger Than Yesterday" (the bass is especially strong & powerful)...well the list is endless as I would usually take mono over stereo; but I have a TT that allows me to switch to "mono" which enhances it even more. FC my be a little cleaner & punchier in mono-vinyl, but I don't think the mixes are different...maybe that's all you wanted to know!!!?? It's very rare & maybe that is enough for some!

The mono version of the album is just a fold down of the stereo and not a unique mono mix.

Ya, zodiac, just mix downs from stereo by '68. 1967 still had the great mono technicians....pre-68 stereo was, many times, just an afterthought & a "mix-down" from the mono. Too bad FC missed that era by just a few months. I've heard that Love's first two are great in mono. FC mono has become a true collector's must-have on their completer list only because of it's rarity. "Quad" is actually the next collector's must-have, with some very different mixes or totally different tracks (Volunteers, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, etc.) The "White Bird" LP in it's original release from '69 is very different than the later pressing when it became a hit.... some are totally different takes. Then there's Neil Young's first LP.... the first press is SO good. That only lasted for a few months before it was remixed, and to Neil's undying disappointment, was changed radically on several tracks. Don't think it has ever been reissued in it's original form? Anyone know?
