Hello. I'm doing some research on the band and band members, and in particular Bobby Beausolieu. Hopefully some of you can help me.
In what month/year did Bobby Beausolieu join the band?
Bobby's nickname was Cupid. It is said that the because of Bobby's nickname the band name "Love" was selected when they changed from "The Grass Roots." Is this true?
After band member changes Charles Manson became the lead singer after meeting Bobby.
In what month/year did Charles Manson become the lead singer?
How long was he their singer?
Was there ever any recorded music with Manson singing lead?
Thank you for your assistance.
Here's an interesting link with a picture of LOVE on the marquee in Haight/Ashbury from back in the 60s.
Not sure if you all seen this before but I thought I would share.

1. Love was originally called The Grass Roots. In '65, they had a run-in with San Francisco producer Lou Adler who wanted to exploit their talent. After ridiculing Adler, Love turned down his offer to be "bigger than the Beatles"; only for their band name to be stolen by a band of studio musicians. 2. After Bobby left GR, he met up with Manson to record his album "Lie" which features Manson on lead vocal and rythm guitar. I'm not sure the date this was recorded, but it is released, however rare.

Thanks J.V.
So Manson never sang lead for Love?
Why did Grass Roots turn down the offer to become bigger than the Beatles?
Jim Morrison and the Rolling Stones were fans of Love, so why did Bobby leave the band?

This link should be very usefull:
http://www.jfkmontreal.com/john_lennon/Chapter14.htm#Love
He, just saw that I'm in the endnotes at the bottom of the page! I am offcourse "someone named Ed".
52 David Fricke, Rolling Stone, Byran MacLean’s obituary, issue 806, Feb. 18, 1999. http://home1.inet.tele.dk/tks/love/maclean.htm. The obituary, written by David Fricke, was not found on Rolling Stone’s website, but the transcription is believed to be authentic because MacLean’s birth and death dates, and cause of death, were independently corroborated, via email, by someone named "Ed" who is associated with a fan website for Love: http://love.torkenskott.dk. Byran MacLean’s death is corroborated by Barney Hoskyns in his book, Arthur Lee: Alone Again Or. Reference pp. 131-132.
53 London Times obituary for Byran MacLean stated that Ken Forssi died of cancer "last January," which would be January 1998. Someone named "Ed," who is associated with a fan website for Love, http://love.torkenskott.dk, stated—via email to author—that Forssi died on Feb. 10, 1998. Both Ed and the London Times obituary agree that the cause of death was cancer, but Ed specified it was brain cancer, a point that was corroborated by Sean Elder in an article, dated May 22, 1999, he wrote for Salon.com. Elder’s article was titled "Love’s Labor Lost."

Punk Floyd - Love could care less about the money and fame. They were a band only to make good music unlike The Beatles.

Thanks guys!
Add more info if you have any. I'll have to read more threads on this site as well.
So there is no available evidence to prove Manson sang in Love, correct?

There are many odd rumors about Love, but Manson singing with them isn't one of them! Not a chance - it simply didn't happen. |

KD: Hey Punk Floyd. The SF Weekly ran a cover story on Bobby B about 2 years ago - infor may still be available on their website, or perhaps you can contact them - No, Manson never played or sang with LOVE - he's only ever mentioned because of Bobby B's brief days with the Grass Roots before they became LOVE.

Kevin delaney
There's a name - He certainly knew a lot around 1998, researching a book. I remember he just missed KF but was in touch with Bryan latterly.

Kevin's a great guy. I emailed with him, and did a few tape trades, in the late 90's. I think he's got some solid Bryan (and maybe others?) interview/transcript material for the book he was working on - would be cool to see it published / available someday. |

You can download the music foc at this url http://toterallee.blogspot.com/
found by scrolling down a wee bit past the 1/2 way point
Bobby Beausoleil & The Freedom Orchestra - Lucifer Rising Bobby Beausoleil's name will be familiar to anybody who has read about the Manson Family and the murders committed in Southern California in the late 1960's. His story and the story of this album is fascinating, and I recommend using Google to find out more. I was expecting some agressive, 'satanic' music, but instead I found this album to be one of the most beautiful psychedelic recordings ever. It's hard to believe this was made by men who were in prison. The first disc is a soundtrack to a 1970's underground film by Kenneth Anger, the second disc contains some of Mr. Beausoleil's recordings from the 1960's, the highlight being a 24 minute piece by "The Magick Powerhouse Of Oz".
