Is there any footage of Arthur playing piano?
I understand he played piano on the Johnny Otis show
Only recorded evidence is his cover of Many Rivers to Cross on the 1980 solo album on Rhino

Pity no films of the da capo band at the Hullabaloo have never surfaced

I understand Arthur recorded some trax with Shack under the name the Bifters, I've never heard any

My guess is that the unreleased album probably is stuff that later came out on Vindicator, Reel to real..

By Reel to real (1974) he was rerecording material (Singing Cowboy, Everybodys gotta live, Busted Feet) and the best song on it is a cover (Be thankful for what you got)

He doesn't seem to have been too prolific after that. The 1980 album is mediocre at best (Bend Down is the worst Arthur Lee track EVER - and the 7+7 Is cover is pointless)

I like the covers on that album (Mr Lee, Many Rivers to cross) more than a lot of the Arthur compositions (Thailand is goddawful, "Just us" is just bland)

Thank God "Down Street" is on side two otherwise there'd barely be any reason for to listen to it

Rolling Stone gave it 3 stars; far too forgiving

I remember reading in a Castle of Arthur mentioning playing piano on Johnny Otis

Maybe for an early band he was in with Echols?

I guess Johnny Otis was a west coast tv show or something. ..

KD: No, Johnny Otis was a big time band leader, father of
Shuggie "Out to Lunch" Otis.

Free the bands !

Hey kdion, not to get off topic, but what do you know about Shuggie Otis? I've been praising him and his records Inspiration Information and Freedom Flight for years now. He's one of the most underrated and enigmatic musicians I know. You say his nickname is "Out to Lunch," and I've heard stories about his disastrous and spaced-out reunion shows a few years back. I know he's a recluse, but do you know much more about him, or the 30(!) years or so he was out of the limelight?

KD: Hey Michael. I've got Inspiration Information too, and it's one
of the all time great records - Shuggie was a child prodigy, star guitar playing son of Johnnie Otis - he was being heralded as the next best thing / big time new guitar player while still being in his teens. And then ?

From what I've heard and read nothing but big time drug problems - crack addict, bad behavior and all that goes with it. I nearly went
to his last SF area show - at The Fillmore a few years back. Quite a few of my friends did, and they all walked out and later described to me one of the all time MOTHERS of live performance train wrecks.

I posted the SF Chronicle review of the show here a couple of years
back. I see if I can find it and do a repost. Shuggie also played occasionally with Arthur Lee, but I can only imagine what the two of them got up to !

I have no idea who David Hull is and, if he ever had anything to do with Aerosmith (possibly one of my least favourite acts ever) I am quite glad I don't

This is an atempt to gather as much information as possible about Arthur Lee and the members of Love through the years.
