The band is primarily composed of songwriters Jeff Baron, Sasha Bell and Chris Ziter, and although they formed in 1997 they specialize in a classic sound inspired by 1960s–1970s pop and folk in the tradition of bands like The Left Banke and Fairport Convention.
They don't currently seem to be active, but I have a couple of their albums - the Long Goodbye and Cannibal Sea - and enjoy them very much indeed. Nothing very complicated about their music, but they have a genuine 60s feel to them. Try the songs on myspace - http://www.myspace.com/theessexgreen or sample them on YoutTube, eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlRsXlH9aDQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL0QW07st8A&feature=related

Posted - 22/10/2012 : 16:02:02 Wonderful to see Left Banke get a little long overdue credit for their works.Of course,"Walk Away Renee" is among my all time 45's,but sadly not nearly enough people seem to be giving similar honors to "Pretty Ballerina",a poignantly evocative love ballad worthy of mention among similarly haunting works such as "Yesterday" and "Ruby Tuesday". |
