Posted - 10/10/2012 : 19:06:01 check out the recent Criterion reissue of Head - has subtitles & witty Monkees commentary and loads of extras on the 1968 film!
Its part of the 2010 box set America Lost & Found along with Five Easy Pieces, Easy Rider, The last picture show, The King of Marvin Gardens
Don't think Bob Rafelson has actually watched the film actually !
Rhino Handmade put out a 3CD set for the soundtrack - I think it also includes some of the 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkees tracks as well (that was a TV special based on Head - that the band were a creation and not really a band as such)
I've only heard the Headquarters Sessions set but I'm assuming the Head set is well worth checking out, though I think most of the 3rd set is just interview
(The album itself only has 6 songs. A few of them the best ever recorded by the band of course!)
Good luck finding it; probably out of print by now although it just came out in 2010!
I'd like to hear the mono "As we go along" myself! |

Posted - 10/10/2012 : 17:30:27 I hate to admit this on a very keenly observant classic rock/pop site, but I STILL haven't seen this one!I nearly bought it once or twice, but that was as close as I've come. From the raves I've heard here, sounds like a real blast.I also am extremely curious about a long lost 1968 cult flick called "Psych Out",which features, get this...Jack Nicholson and THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK!!!Of course,we all know about Jack's involvement with "HEAD".Also, the Alarm Clock did the music for a 1970 Roger Ebert penned script called "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls".And recently,I discovered that the Seeds did a stint on a sitcom called "Mothers-in -Law" with Kaye Ballard and Eve "Our Miss Brooks" Arden! How did THAT ONE happen! |
