I picked this up over the weekend. I thought it was a pretty good take on Lennon's childhood and his relationship to "aunt" Julia (who really was his mother) and Mimi, Julia's sister. Lennon sure was on an emotional roller coaster during those days. The film won a few BAFTA awards. If anybody missed it I think it's a good film to see.

John started on a uke and was taught by Julia

One thing that troubled me about the film was that Mimi made life miserable for John growing up, and everything John did was in reaction to her. Surprised she wanted to raise John because she was as sensitive as a goddamn toilet seat!

You know I've been dipping into "Beatles Gear" book which highlights all the instruments they played throughout their career. Real good book on that stuff and how they got those beautiful sounds....hehe like "raunchy"...etc....

gotta love it for Raunchy, which got George into the band by playing in on top of a bus!

It's been a long time since i've seen it...so I can't say right now, or are referring to the Beatles in general?

Sgt Pepper's may be the best overall showcase of their musicianship.

White album-"Happiness Is A Warm Gun", for me, shows a whole new aspect of the bands' individual talents. It also showcases each member in a new light, as so much was conceived or recorded separately, then meshed into one fine album.
