Posted - 02/03/2012 : 00:41:34 OK, here goes right to the point. These guys are on another plane. All the rest, no matter who or what genre, are looking up at them from a lower level, no exceptions. There are no bad Beatle songs, not a one, and don't give me that No. Nine stuff. All Beatle songs are better than 99% of any music out there. I'm not going to rant as to why this is so. Rather, I present 2 songs. They are not the best Beatle songs, just 2 good ones, but still better than 99% of the rest.

The so called super group. Love this song and I think Roy O. steals the show. You would expect something unearthly to come out of these talents. But no, not at all, they seem to have chosen to just get together, sing and strum, like some friends gathering for a night of music. Just for the fun of it.
Well put. Like a bunch of old friends sitting round the wood stove and strumming.
One of my favorite "super group" lps-no pretentions, no egos. Just fun tuneful jamming....my vinyl is a treasure.

Just cause I haven't heard this one in a while and it was not on any album and also is not about love. And Paul does have a chipped tooth.

Though it was a compilation album, I still consider 1970's "Hey Jude" their "last" LP in a way. So we finally got Paperback Writer & Rain on LP.
I remember that Sullivan "appearance" quite well...brilliant.
thx, mk!

Revolver too. Such a sonic groundbreaker.

Posted - 23/10/2012 : 01:09:15 On my ride into work today, I listened to Rubber Soul, the whole thing. It really changed my mood and put me in a good zone, exactly what I want out of music. These guys deliver.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful love songs ever, they are words that go together well.

Posted - 01/09/2012 : 02:20:43 The Beatles knew how to do a cover. Most times better than the original. In fact, you'd think the song was really meant for them.

Posted - 27/07/2012 : 20:28:23 Early on,although the Fabs were prodigously focused on bringing cliche boy/girl concepts into full flavor, they did indeed intrigue their audience with many wonderfully entrancing musical endeavours. However,as successful as this earlier tuneful diatribe was,the Beatles soon became appointed poet lauriats and even anthropological prophets in the minds of some.As this unexpected path took many esoteric twists and turns,it now seems that in lieu of being intimitated by their new found roles as generational trail blazers, the boys alternately found such inspirations blazingly fueled their collective inherent intention to provide us all with marvelously rich pastels of sound. |

Posted - 23/07/2012 : 16:42:22 Just to offer a UK perspective on this - because of the way in which our earlier Beatles albums were configured, several did not actually contain singles. This gave rise to the notion of 'the single that never was'. I think that It Won't Be Long was a prime example of this - a gloriously pulsating album opener with an original and exceptionally strong melody with those wonderful harmonies and ringing guitars. Similar examples would be No Reply or Eight Days A Week......which of course was a single on the other side of the pond. I can tell you that that caused a lot of confusion and argument in the school playground! The most amazing thing is that these little gems were in all likelihood penned in the back of their van in the time that it took to drive from London to Brighton! And I doubt whether many people back in 1963-64 realised that they were living in the midst a true renaissance. |
