Posted - 28/01/2012 : 20:51:22 Every photograph of Nick Drake creates such aural images in my head of every song Nick wrote.....it seems that those songs are captured in these photos with each frame...all one needs is to look into the lines and curves of Nick's form & face.
So listen and see...

Posted - 29/01/2012 : 16:38:40 And why Scott felt that the body was cremated
I don't like how Trevor Dann automatically assumes Nick was on heroine (most of his friends feel not)
noone seemed to know him very well, and he didn't really have a girlfriend (not Sophia Ryde, not Linda Thompson) |

Posted - 29/01/2012 : 16:35:54 The pot didn't help - I understand one drug dealer sold so much to Nick that he bought the guy a car! (at least according to Trevor Dann's ND bio)
the late Scott Appel felt that Nick was on heroin when he died which is why there was no autopsy on the body
Am curious to read the new book on Nickie D out next month (February) although noone can say for sure if the young man meant to take his life; the question seems to be that of intent
from 1969 onwards the young man seems to have been in free fall, sadly..
And not just his career..

Posted - 28/01/2012 : 23:52:11 Heroine? Smokin' too much dope was his problem. But then, a life long struggle with undiagnosed depression (until the end) will cause one to learn how to best self-medicate. Gene Clark used vodka and cocaine, Tim Buckley heroine, Jim Morrison whiskey....
Now the medical profession & drug companies want to get everyone who loses a loved one on anti-depressants because it has become the NEW designer mental illness. All of a sudden, it is not emotionally correct to grieve for more than the prescribed amount of time.
Sometimes a little melancholy blues on a rainy Sunday is just what the doctor ordered...sometimes sad feels right, feel it and then we can move on & be happy.
When the days is done...by Nick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2jxjv0HkwM
leads to "Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings"...smiles & tears go together like bread & butter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6M9obMj0Sg
The problem is not us...it's the greed of drug companies..
Gee, I wonder why there has been a 400% rise in prescribing of anti-depressants. SOmetimes I wonder who is the enemy here--self-mediation or the drug companies..but in the case of grief...good grief, let us be sad sometimes, it is not quite "1984" or "Fahrenheit 451" yet, but it is fast becoming so.
..thanks to all for allowing my little rant of the day!

Posted - 28/01/2012 : 23:25:26 new biography on the man is due out next month btw by Gorm Henrik Rasmussen
the Hogan book (Complete Guide to Nick Drake) on Nicks music is probably the best to go to, though the Trevor Dann book on Nick is good, though too much focus on hearsay (Nick was on drugs, on heroin)
the Patric Humphries book on Nick needs an update - there have been several releases and compilations since it saw publication by Bloomsbury in the late 90s! |
