(Music & Cultural Critic--"Five mean Years") Greil Marcus Listens To The Doors--with Tom Ashbrook on NPR.
Music philosopher Greil Marcus listens back to The Doors and hears dread and light and Thomas Pynchon.
Here is the link to listen! Pretty good but I have a few issues. The Stones couldn't have created Gimme Shelter if it weren't for The Doors. REALLY?!! I would say rather that the Doors were influenced by the Stones, and both by the Delta Blues & Chicago electric blues greats!

Posted - 17/11/2011 : 14:12:45 Very good...One thing I've noticed is that how can a band of the 60's can still be compelling today? Seems to me their music continues to exist out of that time. Maybe we like to be near thresholds of "dread" that come out from the notes? There seems to be a need to listen to them. Not sure how they did that but it seems to work. |
