Posted - 06/09/2011 : 09:42:36 I've just noticed these three upgrades on Spin - and it's good to see John Einarson involved in the project. Sundazed did a wonderful job on Gene's debut album and so we can have high hopes:

Roadmaster definitely needs a sonic upgrade and so I shall certainly be getting that. I do hope though that the second Dillard and Clark album, Through The Morning, Through The Night doesn't get overlooked in all this. Whilst it lacks the cosistency of the first, it does include Polly ...one of Gene's very best ...and of course more recently covered by Robery Plant and Alison Krauz.
And don't forget they also covered Gene's "Through The Morning Through the Night" beautifully also. The second Dillard and Clark is a must if only for Gene's songs.

Robert & Allison's..cover. Rarely do I like a cover of Gene's work so much... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE_J8BUP5Sc

Thanks. John. So I put on Expedition now....what an amazing album...and of course all three are amazing!!
I need to talk to John to see if he will come round to talk about his liner notes.
Thank god for Sundazed! They are a beacon of the great music we LOVE!!
Here are some Dillard & Clark tunes for those whose are not lucky enough to have it!!
Don't Come Rollin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8zPe8KE634
Out On The Side http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URFg_pg2GVY
Train Leaves Here This Morning ...the definitive version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSrDtl-3eJs&feature=fvst
(Leadon only provided a bridge or some small part on "Train..." and he talks of what a fine person Gene was for crediting him...it was unexpected...but that was Gene)
Radio Song....what a great song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6ZQI3fpZ5U
Einarson also did the liner notes for the upcoming "Two Sides To Every Story"...he was able to get some new interviews for it too...but delays and problems have also pushed back this release.
bummer!
I', listening to the 1973 Byrds reunion album and I love it...I know it was either loved or hated, but with all of the issues of recently "divorced" band members, it is quite nice.
I love the two Neil Young covers too.
See The Sky About To Rain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZZAQT6IsX8
Recognizing Neil's masterpiece- "On The Beach"
Gene was of course the stand-out as always!

And, to go with all this, I've come across an interesting page on The Byrds 1973 Asylum album. It contains the latterday thoughts from those involved. There's a definite consensus that Gene's songs (including the two from Neil Young on which he sang lead) were the best:
