the great Canadian STAN ROGERS (1949-1983) does some great folk tunes...
none better than this great sea shanty he wrote!

Lift a pint to this and enjoy! Makes me pine for the sea!

ALL of Stan's music is great for a pint or two....

Dropkick Murphys - The Spicy McHaggis Jig

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZN3weW1udE&feature=relmfu

a few of youtube comments.....

"I am going to name my first born son Spicy McHaggis."

"it's a great name no doubt, but just make sure, he doesn't follow the love tips from this one...."

A few lyrics....

"One night at the pub, a girl caught his eye, as big as a house, just the right size, the broad was humongous, stacked to the hilt, Spicy soon noticed a bulge in his kilt. The piper delivered his best pickup line, thought to himself this beast is all mine, the portly young lady could stand for no more, she grabbed his cajones and went for the
door."

"Didn't understand a f#@kin word of the chorus. but i liked it!"

"And btw, your not drunk enough if you don't understand the lyrics of the chorus!"

"(Comment removed!!)" Ha!

"Im not irish but this is the best song in the world..."

"The 88 who disliked this wished they were Irish and awesome."

And speaking of imbibers classic from that corridor of the world, what about the old Enlgish standard pub sing-a-long "Those Were the Days".Paul McCartney produced the Apple records version for Welsh songstress Mary Hopkin and gernered a UK number one and US number two.In america, the 45 was kept in the place position by Macca's "Hey Jude".

Let's not forget all the charming hymnals dedicated to alcohol's earthy green cousin. The granddaddy of them all-"Rainy day Women #12 and 35".

"One Bourboun,One Scothch,One Beer"-George Thorogood
"I Drink Alone"-George Thorogood
"Tequila Sunrise"-Eagles
"Cracklin'Rosie"-Neil Diamond.I know this one's a rather pedestrian choice, but it does fit into this scope generally.
"Deacon Blues"-Steely Dan-no entielry about boozing, but an excellent tune to hoist a few with."Drink scotch whicskey all night long...."
"Tear in My Beer"-Hank williams. From the essential 24 greatest hits set. Many of ol' Hanks' tunes will suffice in this regard.
"Wine and Whiskey and Wild Wild Women"-Hoyt Axton-classic forgotten novelty.Used to hear it on Dr. Demento
Now if any song that's just plain fun to drink with is eligible,well...we could go on and on ALL DAY!!

"Roadhouse Blues" isn't a "drinking song" per se, but the 1st line IS:"wELL i WOKE UP THIS MORNING AND GOT MYSELF A BEER...." !!!!
AND and then there's that other Doors record, " and if we don't find the next whiskey bar....."
and then that old classic German beer song, "Roll out the barrell!"
(we'll have a barrell of fun!)
i'll drink to that!!!

...what the world needs now...
