Posted - 06/06/2011 : 15:43:48 There is of course, legitimate use of one expressing oneself through the means of ANY genre.Howver, most Hip Hoppers today are duly and disgustingly abusing this one and are most certainly appealing only to millions of equally shallow minded, vile miscreants who disgusitngly appeal to the mode of music merely to express their inner desires to achieve notoriety via the avenue of sociopathic gluttony. Now,take note that I do say MOST and not ALL.That would imply a brand of rash generalization that would place me in league with these philisophical Phillistines.Yeah, yeah,go right ahead, knock yourselves out.Get on with more of your misogynisitic fantasies and moronic personal doctrine of settling personal disputes with utterly senseless violence. You know what really infuriates me?When they ask people like Elton John and Paul McCartney what THEY think of most of today's rap.Are you F****ng kidding me?I personally wouldn't even DARE to incur an opinion of the matter with obviously artisically gifted individuals. |

Posted - 05/06/2011 : 17:09:25 Umi Says...Mos Def.
There is some Arthur Lee going here. Man, too bad Hip Hop has become such a mislabel for artists like Mos Def. You need to change this subject to Hip Hop and Arthur Lee.....
If this isn't one of the earliest incarnations of hip hop/rapping at its most poetic soul deep, what is?!! Bummer In The Summer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npvhbKlvYr4
Mos Def is pure soul/poetry...thanks! Love it! SHINE YOUR LIGHT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcxLFXbECsY
>>>Allan -- to share youtube vids....just click open your "reply to topic" box, like you always do to share a thought--next: open a totally new window (not a new tab) to view the youtube music-- move the cursor onto the "http" addy at the top, then just click, hold down mouse, & drag the "http://www" to your box in the other window with your forum post, and release the mouse. It will drop in and you have music links posted for us!!!)

Posted - 05/06/2011 : 10:41:16 good call L.K. .thats, what IT is..Poetry..i heard G.S H. , the Last Poets, and Sun - Ra years before the term "Hip- Hop2 had ever been coined. I was also lucky enough to see all 3 play London in the 80,s. Real hip - hop has nothing to do with Emimnem, 50 cent, and all those other "disposabale heroes of hip- hoprecy" that the MTV people listen to. It,s a deep, deep musical genre that incorporates James Brown, Sly stone and many other greats. Shuggy Otis, Atrhur Lee,s old guitair honcho plays some blistering blues runs on Mos Deff,s 2005 album. Stax..the great Issac Hayes...ALL have influenced this generation who..speak about whats going on around them with the instruments and technology thats avalabile to them. Just as Arthur Lee did in his day. Glad you can see through the B.S. Scott.. Gill Scott Heron has done tracks with Mos Deff for insatance...making the never ending circle of music avalibale to the young, and young of heart. I don,t know how to up- load tracks on to here....but UMI SAYS by Moss Def is on you tube..have a listen...the album it comes from BLACK ON BOTH SIDES is well worth a listen as well. I,ll leave the last word to the Mighty Gill Scott Heron... " Ever felt down and out? and you don,t know what to do? living all your days in darkness....let the sun shine through"
PEACE..LOVE MUSIC and HAVING FUN ! |

See, Gil isn't hip-hop or rap to me....it is POETRY...am I wrong, Allan?! I realize that the hip-hop you like is poetry, of course .... not the gagsta stuff...have you seen this Bert & Ernie vid....kind of cute!

Posted - 04/06/2011 : 16:00:34 Gil Scot-Heron--yes, but I am afraid artists like Eminem have me so turned off I never have given it much of a chance. Of course Gil never liked being called the father of hip hop or proto-rap...I always think of Gil as blues/r&b'soul/jazz/rap (in the sense of Dylan with SOUL)/spoken poetry....though Gil sang some great R&B along with the best. Even Gil's last album from 2006 was unlike any hip hop I have ever heard.
Give me a recommendation and I promise to try, Allan!
