Posted - 12/05/2011 : 00:06:17 The clash of styles between original and prog-rock Floyd provides miles of dilemma for anyone choosing their favorite approach by the band. It's kind of like trying to choose between the red and blue Beatles compilations or the first Zeppelin release vs. "Presence".After Syd Barrett kept fans almost dizzying from psychedelic spaciness,Waters and Gilmour were consistently busy trying to dazzle us with the next hook sucker punch until all resulted in their ultimate epic album/film project "The Wall".Disintegration soon followed as there was simply no where else to go.1987's "Momentary Lapse of Reason" was nice, but lacked the scintillation of most earlier endeavours. |

Posted - 11/05/2011 : 19:32:49 I like their early stuff a lot. More in particular I've been listening to a lot - in particular the unreleased stuff from the film (Seabirds, Hollywood, the alternate Cymbaline)
La Vallee also had some music by the Floyd in the film not on the album. Thats one of their best albums actually (La Vallee, aka Obscured by Clouds)
Saucerful of Secrets is a great album but I prefer the BBC takes - I have a recording of "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" from a Top Gear session in 1967 which is absolutely superb
Waters first noteworthy song |

Posted - 11/05/2011 : 17:55:38 After "Secrets",Floyd came down from their flying saucers to explore the synth-rock scape with a more earthly magic carpet ride as their red eyed admirers continued to tune in with zealous expectations.Strangely, the roster of competitors in the overall market would include the Carpenters and syrupy drivel from the Osmonds and Partridge Family!AH,life is always so full of ironic duality. |

Posted - 11/05/2011 : 17:07:49 Clegg is "well lets try n sound like Syds, here" but hey guys ..it,s all subjective .and more power to people who like it. Personaly , i was just sooooooooooooooo dissapointed after "Piper" I,d rathger listen to MADCAP LAUGHS..OR BARRETT ..than saucerfull. |

Posted - 10/05/2011 : 15:36:42 First when I heard "Corporal Clegg" from "Secrets" I didn't really know what to do with its inherent all out trippy wackiness. In fact,I didn't care for it all.But as time went by I found myself more and more drawn to a certain conceptual depth I felt but couldn't quite articulate in so many words. Now I think it a fascinating glimpse into Floyd's pre-progressive somewhat avant garde first developmental stages. One critic once remarked that the Pink experienced both astonomic highs and plummeting lows due to the band's willigness to experiment with almost ANYTHING.With each successive album,of course, the picture became more coherent and finely tuned. |

Posted - 09/05/2011 : 20:59:11 love "Piper" the 1st. Floyd album..but i don,t rate the second...Syd had gone...and you have Waters and Company tring to sound like him.
PIPER...ATOM HEART MOTHER...DARK SIDE ..and the very under-rated ANIMALS..all great albums...i never lked the WALL ...some good cuts on it , but just toooooooooooooooo Depresing...i couldent even bring myself to listen to The Final Cut. One of the greatest bands i,ve ever seen live though. |
