Posted - 30/04/2011 : 21:47:48 Their early works touch me like no other...Whiter Shade Of Pale of course, but "A Salty Dog" (the UK version was always my favorite set list) is my favorite.
For those who have not gotten the 40th anniversary release...wel what are you waiting for?!

Posted - 03/05/2011 : 15:49:40 Sometimes I wonder if some of the better composers of the sixties, like the ones who createsd the marvelous suitesmpresented here, would have gone into the history books as some of the Freat Composers had they only been born a century or two earlier.Certainly, there's a case for McCartney having composed many quasi-classical pieces like "Eleanor Rigby".Conversely, maybe Strauss,Schumann,or Beethoven, had they been born LATER might have made Procul Harum or the psych-era Moddy Blues even groovier.Maybe this is getting a little far out,but just food for thought. |

Posted - 01/05/2011 : 17:05:43 Procol Harum (album)
Procol Harum is the self-titled first album by British rock band Procol Harum, released in September 1967. The original Deram release of the LP included a large poster of the album cover artwork by Dickinson.
Though the album was recorded on multi-track, it was issued in mono-only in the UK, and in mono and rechanneled stereo in the US. Despite extensive searching, the original multi-track tapes have not been located and thus a stereo mix of the original 10 tracks may never be possible. Several alternate takes (marked + in the list, below), however, have been mixed into stereo and are available on CD.

Lucky Brits got the mono mix...we got the rechanneled crap always!!

Posted - 01/05/2011 : 01:53:11 I find the track isting comparisons between UK & USA release to be interesting...I would think frustrating for the UK fans as Whiter Shade Of Pale is MISSING!!!!?
Original UK release Side one
1. "Conquistador" + 2. "She Wandered Through the Garden Fence" + 3. "Something Following Me" + 4. "Mabel" 5. "Cerdes (Outside the Gates Of)" +
Side two
1. "A Christmas Camel" 2. "Kaleidoscope" + 3. "Salad Days (Are Here Again)" 4. "Good Captain Clack" 5. "Repent Walpurgis" +
(+ alternates takes exist in stereo)
Original U.S. release
1. "A Whiter Shade of Pale" 2. "She Wandered Through the Garden Fence" 3. "Something Following Me" 4. "Mabel" 5. "Cerdes (Outside the Gates Of)" 6. "A Christmas Camel" 7. "Conquistador" 8. "Kaleidoscope" 9. "Salad Days (Are Here Again)" 10. "Repent Walpurgis"
I must say the USA track list is preferable by far as I compare them!!! Sorry mates!!
When I got th e40th anniversary release I had to immediately go in a and put the track order to rights! I could not listen to th eUK order...it was so OUT OF ORDER!!! The US order makes so much more sense. So LONDON actually got it right once for the Yanks?!!
And "Homburg" is from my UK "A SAlty Dog"....reissue madness!!
