although Martin and Brown seem to have been working together recently (I have a few tracks with the two on a Leftbankeisms release - I think you can download the artwork and music from
leftbanke.nu
(one of the few webpages better than even THIS website!)
I don't think Martin is singing anymore. Last I heard he had a drinking problem, and Jimmy Mcallister (RIP - he was in the Beckies)
Finn and Brown had been working with another singer
Of course Brown had released an album with his wife Yvonne Vitale with covers of Left Banke trax (She may call you up tonight) but it seems to have been withdrawn although its on the LB site, along with Mike Brown interviews
Mike Brown still seems to be doing music but it seems to be only for his own enjoyment and I don't think hes released anything for some time (not since the 90s project with his wife)
Sundazed seems to be putting out the early LB stuff to cd (WAR/PB, Too). Hopefully they'll give a miss to the wretched 70s material Strangers on a train which had no Brown involvement at all (it seems to have been done for the money by that point)
I'd be surprised if Michael doesn't turn up at the Left Banke gig as he lives near Manhattan here in New Jersey, but heaven knows if hes released anything of late. The last album I recollect him playing on is the 2nd album by the Stories (About Us)
and that wasn't a great album, aside from the
odd Michael Brown instrumental (Circles) and "baroque" break on "Nice to be"
I'm not sure that the vocal style of Ian Lloyd really meshed too well with Michaels playing
(unlike, say Steve Martins singing on the early Left Banke records, with harmonies by Tom Finn and all
The Montage album isn't too great either - the cover of "Men are building sand" on that is appalling - I don't know why that flat note was left in as it ruins the song! the Left Banke version (off their 1st album) is far superior
So, basically, his peak was in the 60s, when he was writing songs inspired by Renee Fladen (Walk away Renee, She may call you up tonight) in his late teens!
Christopher Guest (Nigel Tufnel of legendary band Spinal Tap) toured as a member of the LB
when they were still doing live gigs (which by report appear to have been an abject failure, often getting blown off the stage by their opening act) |

theres some stuff by Steve Martin (his Two by Two b/w Love songs in the night single) thats Left Banke in all but name

Anyone have, keyboardist/singer/songwriter og Left Bank, Mike Brown's
spin -off group, "Montage"'s album, 1968, which is on Sundazed CD (which I have). It's an ambitious production, with Brown's great vocals and everything Left Banky!

Iain Matthews cut a really fine version of "She May Call You Up Tonight" with the Hi-Fi, the Seattle band he worked with back when he was still living in the U.S. northwest. A song perfectly suited to Iain's voice and style, he continued to include it in his live sets for quite some years after recording it,
as I recall. Nice stuff. |

No, check the information given by roots66 which matches up with the discography and session details I have on Rhino's History of the Left Banke LP. Second LP was released November 1968.
Other side of the single was Love Songs in the Night, both sides recorded January 1971, released in March 1971 as Buddah 219, Hot Parts soundtrack released July 1972 on Kama Sutra:

Some references say this is an Andy Warhol film, I can't find it in his filmography. It did star Ultra Violet, one of his superstars, the LP cover is here, also had a track from The Montage, the 1968 group Michael Brown produced, arranged, wrote for and played keyboards on the records, though he wasn't officially a member.
