Tim Buckley, Live at the Folklore Center, March 6, 1967.
"Live at the Folklore Center" is the earliest known recording of a Tim Buckley show, recorded when he was just 20 years old, four months after the birth of his son, Jeff.
So although Tim was ever so keen to progress his music, leading to controversially jazzy and funky albums, this is just Tim and his acoustic guitar, in front of 35 lucky people, performing 16 of his more conventional boho folk cuts.
His famously soaring voice illuminates favourites like "Wings"and "Aren't you the Girl", but it's the SIX unreleased tracks that make this an essential purchase for early period Buckley acolytes. -clashmusic.com
Just ordered it!!! Whoa! essential is RIGHT! Imagine finding an early '66 Love recording of a FULL set of this magnitude!!

Posted - 11/10/2009 : 18:55:43 I was rather lofty with my comparing Bryan to Tim. Bryan writes brilliant melody and fine lyrics, but for the same reason that Love would not include more of his songs on Da Capo, Bryan's songs lack a certain depth in that darker depth that Arthur and Tim delve.
And after listening to "ifyoubelievein"..which I love dearly, for all it's beauty and innocence; yet, on a side by side listen, I'm afraid Bryan can't touch Buckley's heights of vocal & instrumental genius, nor the brilliant catalog of melodic and lyric genius.
Like Lennon and McCartney, Lee & MacLean were so much better with each other than alone...not sure if either duos were willing to admit that, though. Of course Lennon & McCartney at least gave credit to each for contributions to each others sings, in title (even when they didn't) and in interviews. Lee was so indebted to Bryan for his presence and great talent. Arthur did admit that Bryan was a "great, great songwriter"...but did he admit all that he owed to Bryan's influence on his own compositions? I don't think so.
I digress. Point is, I shouldn't have compared Tim & Bryan. I love them both!

Posted - 08/10/2009 : 18:17:41 I finally got the CD by post and I am blown away! Not a missed note with his brilliant, soaring tenor!! Guess all that singing along to Miles Davis paid off...
I am listening to it & it struck me how much it puts me in an "ifyoubelievein" state of mind. Tim and Bryan both have a brilliant strumming style that is on fire (though Tim really is a better all round singer and musician). I've always thought that Bryan was a brilliant tenor also, but his playing has always reminded me of the brilliant Pete Townsend's strumming ... (like on Pinball Wizard).
So back to Tim's live show in '67...it just confirms that, along with Roy Orbison, Buckley has the finest 5 octave voice in the history of pop music...live OR in studio!!!
Sorry....but this IS a must have, all!! Right, boomer?! You can get some good discounts for VG+ used copies at amazon, etc. The unreleased tracks are just as great as any I've heard by Tim.

Great news (when I find the cash to buy it!). Have had this one as an mp3 sourced bootleg for years and it is indeed excellent.
As an aside, Tim Buckley was perhaps the main reason I bought an acoustic 12 string guitar - and got irritated by the guy in the shop who only knew his son's work! To me, Buzzin' Fly has to be up there with Eight Miles High as the reason why 12 strings were invented.
Ya, Boomer. I love the narrative on the Fleeting house DVD-- how Tim injured his pointer finger and was unable to properly do a bar chord on the 12 string, so he INVENTED his own unique chords and influenced generations!

No Buzzin' Fly...this concert with Tim on his twelve string is pre Happy Sad, and is just before Goodbye/Hello was released. Reviewed as a great live intimate concert with Tim in top form. Vocally in his folk phase and instrumentally in his Happy/Sad phase.
1. Song For Jainie 2. I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain (love that..cann't wait to hear acoustic) 3. Wings 4. Phantasmagoria in Two 5. Just Please Leave Me 6. Dolphins 7. I Can't See You 8. Troubador 9. Aren't You The Girl 10. What Do You Do (He Never Saw You) 11. No Man Can Find The War 12. Carnival Song 13. Cripples Cry 14. If The Rain Comes 15. Country Boy 16. I Can't Leave you Loving Me
All the tracks were written (or co-written) by Tim except Dolphins, but more importantly, there are SIX tracks never released or heard before and they are supposed to be just as good as his other material!!
Hey Ol' Man... I knew I could count on you to have seen Tim. Sweet.

Obviously Joe is joking but I am always shocked how many people know Jeff but have no knowledge of Tim. I do like Jeff's stuff but it's just not in the same league as his father. Tim was by far the greater talent. |
