A sad loss at a relatively young age....72. Cancer sucks.
Rest in peace, Mary.

Posted - 17/09/2009 : 09:52:29 Yes, indeed. That beautiful soaring voice of hers figured prominently in my childhood listening. On BBC Radio 4 news this morning, they played an excerpt from If I Had A Hammer......the message of peace and harmony that the song delivers in that inimitable early 60s folk style seemed almost heartbreakinkly poignant. I wonder whether without Pete Paul and Mary we would ever have had The Byrds or The Airplane....or The Mamas and The Papas. Mary - you blazed quite a trail there......and so thank you and sleep well. |
