Sad to learn of the passing of Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey
Martin. Guess it's further proof that we're at an age where we'll
need to get used to losing artists who've meant a great deal to us
on a more frequent basis. With both Dewey and bassist Bruce Palmer
gone now, it just seems all the more important that at some point,
Neil, Stephen, and Richie might somehow manage to make just a little
bit more of that magic together. Needless to say, the same applies
to Byrds Roger, David, and Chris. Anyway, we can dream. Rest in peace,
Dew, and thanks for being an integral part of one of the best live rock n'
roll bands ever.... |

We ran some Dewey-Buffalo stuff on the air over the last couple of days;
his death was actually last weekend. Ideally, I always much prefer to
remember and celebrate artists on the day of their birth, rather than
when they checked out, apart from (as in Dewey's case), just after they
leave us. All day today, my station is celebrating the birth and amazing
legacy of Bob Marley, who would have turned sixty-four today. We honor
Marley every week, year in and out, with a Sunday morning specialty show
(8:00 AM, PST), streaming live on-line at www.ktyd.com. |

Thanks, Rick, for letting us know. With Dewey out of the spotlight for so long, the news of his passing is not so well publicized, but what a great drummer. I think Buffalo Springfield were my first real music inspiration and joy from the first chords of "For What It's Worth". Though I've always loved most music....they were something special! I'm proud to say that I still have their first mono LP,--and it still plays great, even after all those torturous drops down those TT spindles! Any planned tributes on your show, Rick?
Anyone remember seeing them on that early Mannix episode? I thought that was so cool.

Once again, very sad news - and a timely reminder of mortality. Buffalo Springfield deserve to have their place in history reaffirmed. They are perhaps quite a rare example of a group's heritage being eclipsed by the subsequent work of its two leading members. RIP Dewey ...and thanks for all that great music you helped to craft. |

RW- Thanx for telling us! oh, God NO! THIS is very syncronistic for me, 'cause just a couple weeks ago, i posted on a wish list for rare recordings, and i included "Medicine Ball" album by Dewey Martin!
i've had him on my mind. saw him play with B. Springfield in 1966, and hope to hear the album some day. here are 2 links about the lp:
