Posted - 08/06/2007 : 23:21:30 Just musing on how voices are distinctive. of course there's Arthur - whatever he says about singing any style his mellow tones prevail. We're on itunes here and I've been Naming That Vocalist - just amazed at how many are distinctive: Sandy Denny, Lennon, Bolan of course, and though we'd say folk is a genre, it's easy to spot pete seeger, martin/liza carthy, john martyn, joan baez, dylan, guthrie, roger chapman, joni...
I was queueing (unsuccessfully) for Dylan tickets when we read in the papers that Sandy Denny died.
I know all things must pass etc but realising we'll never hear anything like some of them live again is a bit tough. at least we can find recordings...

Posted - 09/06/2007 : 12:54:22 Best Sandy Denny album for me is what we did on our holidays when she was with fairport. speaking of great female vocalists, I love sharon tandy singing hold on with the fleur des lys..great song, i tracked down an album of hers and she was a pretty groovy bird! |

I thought I had read that Sandy Denny had died many years ago. She was in a group once named Fotheringay...a great LP
Roger Chapman sure does have a unique voice...one that you wouldn't forget
How about Terry Reid
Delores O'Riordan from the Cranberries
Peter Rowan from Earth Opera
Mike Harrison from Spooky Tooth and several solo LP's
