Well, it was a bit of a surprise to discover that Love were playing at Darlo, and seeing as it is 15 minutes away for me it would have been rude not to go.

First impressions of the venue left me wondering whether I had come to the right place. An old school in an industrial estate seemed a bit strange, but it really worked.

There really shouldn't be a question of whether you go to see the band if you have a ticket already. It was a brilliant performance, I know Love isn't Love without Arthur, but by the same token, Arthur wouldn't have played at all in the last five years as well as he has without these guys.

Love is all about the music, and that was still there, no one will claim Rusty is in the same league as Arthur, but they are still playing top class music with a passion that can't be doubted. Every one of them last night looked like they wanted to be there, and for that they deserve respect and support.

There was little mention of Arthur, you could sense bitterness, anger, from the band, after all, the man whose career they had resurected had jilted them, but it truely is his loss. I would much prefer to listen to this than Arthur performing badly.

They played Forever Changes first up, except Bummer in The Summer, Rusty coped admirably with Old Man. Mike played so hard he blew a channel on his amp, and it was good to see Johnny play, sing and look a part. It is impossible to single out any single track, as they were all played passionately and professionally.

After a break, they ran through some older stuff. Most of Da Capo, including Revelations, if this is one of the first times they have played this then they deserve a medal. It blew the crowd away. It was trip back in time to a land that some people on here will remember, of bands extending and jamming their tunes to full effect. They could have kept it going for another ten minutes, they were so in the groove.

Johnny took the lead vocals on Little Red Book and Signed DC. He missed his cue once on LRB but the crowd let him off. He did a great job of Signed DC, so did Dave on harmonica. One ominous sign was that Johnny finished with "No one cares about me, signed A Lee", significant?

There was a storming 7 + 7 is to finish, with Johnny playing the outro to perfection, they then came back for Singing Cowboy.

I was so surprised how much they looked like they were enjoying it, it would be so easy to throw in the towel and just plod through the gig, but no way were they going to do that. That is why I would urge anyone with tickets to go to the gigs, and anyone without tickets to go and buy some, the best £10 I have spent in a long time.

I wish the band all the best, they have obviously been completely dumped on, I hope the venues give them a chance, because they will see the crowd still love the music and will support top musicians playing great material, with or without the writer.

Superb night, an amazing effort from Keith and a credit to the bands "legendary" status that in less than TWO DAYS we could garner as much interest as that...absolutely FANTASTIC!
Hope to see them again soon! (if it's back in Darlo then I'll have to get the night off, it was pretty torturous hearing all those shiny classics through the wall!!!)
I'll echo the fact that the band were all friendly, personable blokes, a nicer bunch I've yet to meet!
Cheers
Dan

I was at the darlo gig last night, i couldn`t beleive it when i heard that love would be playing who in my opinion are the biggest band to have ever played here!!!
The gig was amazing, it was easily the best live performance i have ever seen in my life!! (although i`m only 23). I thought that the band would maybe be a bit reluctant to play such a small venue, but that was not the case at all. they clearly enjoyed playing to us and the atmosphere was electric. Forever Changes is one of my favourite albums of all time and to actually see love come to my hometown and perform makes me feel complete.
The band members were also unbeleivably friendly, taking the time to chat amongst the fans after the gig. it was a really special night for darlington and hopefully the band itself.
AMAZING!!!

"i skived off work and had a duvet day...shame on me"

good option wish I could have joined you Jellybean - well not literally but you get my drift ,I had to go to work today.

"Does anyone have any setlists of this tour?"

Well actually I have 2 signed setlists from last night Martin.
One of the first set "Forever Changes" and another of the second "Da Capo plus others"

Sorry I'm not gloating , just over the moon. If you are interested I'll post last nights running order on the board later.

I haven't really wanted to enter into the "with" Arthur "without" Arthur debate as I feel everyone has there own opinion on this matter.

Just let me tell you that I have had some marvellous times over the past 3 years with this band and was privileged to be at events such as the RFH DVD recording.
There is no doubt about it when Arthur is on song he is on fire however I felt the recent tour he was rather jaded for whatever reason . I had no real intention of doing any dates on this tour but as usual changed my mind at the last minute.Believe me I'm so glad I did.

What the band are doing with Johnny is absolutely awesome and you also get the chance to hear songs which Arthur , for whatever reasons, would not play.

So the debate of with or without Arthur does not come into it ,just get yourselves down to the gigs you will not be dissapointed I assure you.

Please give these guys a chance the sheer effort they are putting in is astounding.

I don't mind admitting I was always moved to tears last night in Darlington, Ok I was very tired after making last minute arrangements but it was simply such an emotional night.

F*** It you should go for Revelation on it's own.

Please support the guys or you may lose them forever!!! and where would we be then?

I knew none of you would be disappointed This gig was arranged in less than 48 hours and Keith deserves a medal for working so hard to get it all off the ground.
If anyone still has doubts then just look at these reviews...like it says above, maybe the best night you've had in ages

There was probably about 100 people in. The venue was tiny though, it only holds around 150 so the atmosphere was great
