Must say it came as a bit of a surprise when we arrived at the Rock Cafe in Stourbridge to find that Arthur Lee wouldnt be joining the band tonight...When we got to the door, we were politely told that due to unforeseen circumstances, Arthur Lee wasnt playing with the band tonight, or in fact for the rest of this tour...in fact he had apparently been left on the other side of the Atlantic (in rehab, or at least mashed somewhere or other in the US perhaps?)...We we told that we could still watch the band with £7.50 returned on our ticket price, or otherwise get a full refund an go home...WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT GO HOME!

The band were amazing tonight. Rusty being a more that capable and worthy replacement for the mighty Arthur Lee...You could tell that before the band came on that the boys were nervous about the reception they might receive without the man himself (Mike Randle coming out, introducing himself personally to most of the crowd and apologising far more than was really necessary) - but they needn't have been...two encores later and they could have been in no doubt that, Arthur or no Arthur, their fans love them...all the old favourites were played tonight, with the added promise of some more older stuff being pulled out of the bag on the forthcoming 10 dates...

Whatever you do, dont miss the opportunity to see Love WITHOUT Arthur Lee...it was a total joy and a good night was had by all...the t-shirts on the merchandise stall might need a bit of amending though ;)

Enjoy!

Much Love, J x

Forever Changes was about mixing lots of instruments with and around Arthur's extraordinary lyrics and vocals. A lot of Love songs could grow with additional percussion....I just think about congas banging away as Arthur is chanting "They're locking em up today, they're throwing away the key." Awesome.

So there is room for both Daddy-O and Michael and I bet both like to experiment with different percussion.

Let's invite Michael back.

Not as bad an idea as it first sounded to me, as long as Michael is up to some real powerhouse drumming. Daddy-O has always hit 'em hard, but with this current configuration (good to see Dave C back too, after the birth of his little 'un), there may be some space for extra drums and percussion.

Please see my other post regarding all this...gig will be on next week, Thursday 14th. There is also a strong chance that there may be a gig in Devon next Wednesaday but not certain yet..watch this space.

The Tube is suspended indefinitely and there are no buses at the moment in Zone 1 where the Academy is. People are advised not to travel.

Does anyone know if the Islington gig is still going ahead this evening? Given all the security problems today they might cancel.

I've just woken up after last night's Oxford show. It was FANTASTIC. The band are really alive and enjoying this 2 hour show. The best that I've ever seen.
Shame on Cambridge for panicking at the lack of Arthur and cancelling this show. Well done to those venues that are sticking with it, and giving LOVE fans a chance to see this brilliant show.

If I can get to the Islington Academy tonight (the tube system is currently closed) I am going again.

BRILLIANT!!!!

Have just woken up after what was possibly the best Love show out of seven I have been to. Yes, I do refer to the Love Without Arthur Lee show last night at Oxford. The band are definitely revitalised at the moment, especially Johnny. OCfan has said all that need to be said about the line-up. Just go see 'em and you will come away buzzing.

i've been trying to probe Michael into giving any info away too, I mentioned i would like to shake his hand for signing my pegasus carousel book and he mentioned he would like that...can i take that as a sign, hope so!! Would be fantastic to see the 3 of them onstage together again, it wouldnt take my enjoyment away from listening to the rest of the guys..baby lemondade are cool, anyone got any of their stuff pre LOVE?

GoodHumorMan...I swap emails with Michael all the time. He seems like a really cool person. There was a chance meeting a couple weeks ago where Johnny and Michael got together for the first time in like 35 years. Michael has very positive things to say about Johnny, and he wishes Johnny and the band all the best...all the time. He has a lot of respect for Johnny, as a person and as a musician.

That would be just awesome-Johnny and Michael gigging together.

I keep trying to prod info out of Michael, but he just won't let on (at least to me) about him doing a 'guest spot' or two with the band in the future.

Allan

P.S.-OCfan...the feeling is mutual.

Without wanting to get anyone too excited, I think that is a possibility

Aww Allan and Caryne:
I'm becoming quite fond of you two.
No one is going to be ripped off by going to see this band without Arthur Lee.
My hope is that Arthur gets his illness under control and his ego out of the way long enough to realize what a class act he has with him or had with him.
These guys never disappoint. They are just too good in their own right.
For those of who who think that Arthur Lee IS LOVE. Keep in mind these guys could have just thrown in the towel. But instead, they took a risk to come and hope the fans would still come to see them.
To not support them when they have supported Arthur would be a shame. And you are getting to hear music Arthur chose not to play.
I took my 15 year old newphew to see them at the Coach House here in California. Arthur was in another one of his states. But my nephew was just blown away by Mike, Johnny, Rusty and the band.
Also, they may have saved Arthur's ass for future gigs. At least they showed up and I know what an incredible show they put on.
Whether they can continue on with Arthur is anyone's guess but I will support Mike, Johhny and the group and continue to go see them whenever I can. They are just that good. With or without AL.
