[or part of one i shud say, since i'd be suprised if they were the full lyrics to whatever it was...]

i think the above comments from B7addE are spot on - he'd clearly been enjoying himself a bit already. well put
i do remember the gist of the first song. it was an old-style blues about having a type of girlfriend.

Its the only time I've seen them take a bow like that in 20 odd times of seeing Love play live!
Its also the only time I've ever seen Arthur come on stage and free form like that - yes he was talking / singing, although not really sure about what - they normally start with Aloneagainor from memory!! |

thanks for the newspaper review though I'm sure they didnt play Andmoreagain...[eek ! I've reached the age where I doubt myself now !]
OK folks, we know Arthur played harp while the others watched [and the roadie stood frozen, guitar at the ready , held out, till I thought he was a statue - or that his arm wud drop off]....
but can anyone remember if arthur sang/spoke during it.... or if the band [or 1/2 of them] started to try and play along as it gathered steam ?? I vaguely remember both happening, but vague is the operative word !

The band were just fantastic  , I always think they revel in this situation, rather than the more restrained role they have to play with the orchestra. Mike was brilliant, as usual, but i couldn't believe just how good johhny Echols was  .
Arthur was obviously having a good time, and probably had been since way before the show  , and although this left his singing a little eratic, at times, it was still an amazing performance, and his Harp playing was truely awsome.
And, yes the band had no idea that Arthur was gonna start with the Harp solo , but they soon picked up on the idea.

Hi Paddieu, I was at the Magic Band show last year at the Rescue Rooms as well, which was absolutely brilliant, and seemed to attract all of the old Captain addicts out of where they'd been hiding for the last 20 years. They'e booked again there on 31st May.
I was right at the front at the Rescue Rooms gig as you can tell from my photos - too busy taking those to do a setlist. As regards the first "number", don't know the story there, but it was definitely all Arthur's doing, the rest of the band were just waiting to do the normal show...which they then did with a vengeance. I liked the way they all came out and gave a bow at the end, unfortunately had aleady packed the camera away by then. There was a great review of the show in the Nottingham Evening Post on Monday which I've sent to Torben. |

I was hoping someone would be able to give the setlist for the show. For me it was much better than Bristol, which is the first show I've seen in 3 years that was less than wonderful. I missed Dave very much at Bristol, but by this gig the new guy was so good that I was surprised to find that I didnt miss Dave {though of course am looking forward to having him back for several reasons].
They hit the ground running and stayed that way. Didnt go off for the 'encores', so that the last 2 songs somehow became even more powerful than usual.
Seeing Can't Explain was a thrill for me though I think they could jam out on it more.
House is not a Motel was huge and the best one I have seen.
No 'Your Mind and We' :-(
But I rarely get to see Live and Let Live so that was a bonus.
Got more of a sense of what Johnny might be bringing to the overall sound, [quite a lot] though am still chewing over the merits of his inclusion musically [emotionally it's fab to have him there].
Audience seemed a bit subdued until right near the end. Reaction much less intense than for the Magic Band at this same venue last year.
I wish someone could say more about the weird beginning, with the solo harp and stuff. I was too far away to see if Arthur was also singing on this. Hopefully someone taped it and can tell us what was going on there, or if it was a particular 'song' etc.
Lovely to see Arthur come out with Johnny at the end to sign stuff.
Would be interested to have this show compared with the Scottish ones !

Thought the show was great especially seeing JE for the first time. What I enjoyed most was how JE and Mike complemented each other musically rather than one taking the limelight. No surprises in the song selections but did start with Mr Lee doing a harmonica solo slot that I don't think the band was expecting!!
Mr Lee's voice was not the best I've heard it but he made up for that with his humour and energy.
Travelling from Leeds to see them in Glasgow tonight, hope to see some of you there.
