allan- glad to meet you! i will report my experiences of the 9-29 show here! and i will await your report of the 10-13 show. man, i am an old fan , having seen Arthur and LOVE i 1966, '68, '70, '76ish, and several post freedom shows(mostly Forever changes concerts). and this one coming up has my intense interest! it's a sit down show! good for a baby boomer like me! not reserved seats, just get there early , run to the front, center, sit down , and thank GOD!!! cussing and swearing will be done after the show on the streets AND freeways of L.A. by myself before and after the show, i'm sure. all worth the momentary sanctuary of magic provided by LEE and LOVE! oh, yeah, the monkey has been off my back for 10 years, although, i aint mr. clean , either, just safe, relatively speaking!

bob f. Could you please come back on here and give us your review of the 9/29 performance? A few of us here on the East Coast are going to Town Hall, NYC on 10/13, and would appreciate your comments. I personally appreciate your candor about past demons...it was the same for me. Old demons die hard-if you're strong enough to kill them. I hope your 9/29 gig is stellar!!!!

my above post reveals my criteria of allowance for great magic.I, MYSELF, not innocent to drug problems, KNOW that change doesn't come until your back is against the wall... either change or die. i still believe Arthur will do some great shows, possibly even release an actual album of current (new) songs, and , yes, i do pray he grasps that ring of protection, remembers his fans, and decides to stick around and continue to spread the magic! i hold my breath now until i see Arthur and Love at the WILTERN EBELL, L.A., 9-29!!!

Susan,
You are right on the money. There's some kind of substance abuse going on and if we truly care about Arthur, we should indeed be concerned that he is killing himself. How sad if another talent dies before his time. What he has done musically cannot be replaced and wouldn't it be sweet to have some more?

Mr. Clean he is not. I hope he saw the autopsy report for his good friend Rick James.

yes....i, too, am along time fan.first saw Arthur and Love in '66. saw a few post freedom shows. i agree, he is very fortunate to be be not only with us, but also touring and spreading magic. i really am looking forward to 9-29th L.A. concert. i allow a totally different criteria for Arthur Lee than for anyone else performing in this world. he is different, has always been to me. i respect and appreciate all critical concern. it just means we care. i also respect that he does things his own way. he is always surprising me and delighting me. sometimes dissapointing me. having to be great every night must be a burden. i think , man, if i was under the magnifying glass , and not exactly mr. clean, well...you know i don't judge someone who is doing amazing things considering where he's coming from. i only wish him well, continue the magic, and listen to advice about his career and his fans' observations. LOVE, ALWAYS, FOREVER.

Ok, that makes more sense and I can't think of many people who would disagree with what you say (guess that first post of your was a little confusing seeing as it was in response to a joke...maybe it's a sense of humour that didn't translate?) Anyway, now you've made yourself clear...welcome to the board

Carnye:
Let's back up here and start over. Let's forget the shirt. Let's forget everything and let me just tell you what is breaking my heart.
I'm an original LOVE fan which means I'm an old lady or maybe a wise lady.
I think Arthur has been given a second chance to bring his music to a whole new generation. Any musicians obligation is to give the best performance, they can, every time they walk on stage. Some nights they are brilliant some nights they are just average. Like anyone else doing a "job". It is far more than a job because music moves us to places we can't go otherwise.
Everything else aside, I felt saddened when at the first show at Spaceland, I heard three new "fans" say they would never come see the group again. This in response to Arthur being so arrogant and aggressive and absolutely obnoxious to his "band" and his "fans". The only gift that night was that the band held him up and therefore we heard some incredible playing by the rest of the band.
My heart breaks because I have now seen Arthur in this "condition" three times and that's three times too many.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that we have been so fortunate to get to see this incredible group perform and I would be saddened to see Arthur blow his second chance and new fans.
This is only one fans observation. I don't know anymore than you do. But we all know incredible talents that have self destructed. Arthur has been given a second chance and I just hope he doesn't blow it. That's all.LOVE

Do it yourself and see what you think. I hate to see an incredible group fall apart for one ego. And that ego is not Mike's. I'm just another fan like you and everyone should be praying that Arthur doesn't "self sabotage". On stage, he does not give his band the respect it deserves. Have seen it myself, in person, several times. Maybe my anger isn't at these posts but at the sadness I feel if Arthur blows it, one more time.

Just re-read your message and a tad confused. Freedom Man's posts don't say anything much, other than announce the latest diary...do you mean Mike's diary rather than the posts of Freedom Man? I can't say I have read, and I have been re-reading, anything on this board where anyone has anything but love and respect for Mike and the rest of the band...and I'd like to think they know that. The shirt stuff was a joke and, apart from that, I just can't find what else you mean. Honestly, I'm not trying to be awkward or anything just confused as to where on this board anyone has been doing what you suggest.

Course it was funny...can't see why 'some people' took it any other way! I know there are some 'heavy times' at the moment but really.....
BobbyFischer Posted - 12/09/2004 : 01:01:12
In context with the alarm bells ring loudly discussion which i made a twist on,yes i think it was funny.

This has got riduculous..honestly, most people know that Beckham is (these days) seriously over-rated and that Mike, Rusty, Daddyo and Dave are fantastic blokes! I just can't see what people are getting worked up about (well, some people!)
To 'Bobby Fischer'....I may be a woman but I do know how people feel about Beckham....does that mean your comment was anything other than a 'daft joke' though? lol
BobbyFischer Posted - 11/09/2004 : 22:54:40
To the people who still think my "shocked and stunned" message was seriously meant, please read it again and try to notice sentences like "brings tears to my eyes" and "very stunned".If your into football you will understand the humour if not it may as Caryne thinks, seem like a daft joke. But please dont accuse me of attacking Mike or trying to "divide up a group".ok?Only regrets I have is while I was drunk and very stunned sending the notation to my favourite chess game ever, between Bobby Fischer and Paul Benko from 1963 which is of course very off topic on this message board
