I just got my tix for the San Francisco performance at the Great American Music Hall (where I saw Arthur perform in January of this year) and had a couple of questions.
Does anyone know if the SF performance is going to similar to either of the recent LA performances where the setlist is going to be album specific (ie da capo or forever changes)??
And secondly the tix state that thte Zombies and Arthur are co-headliners, but really, who is the headliner, and never having seen the Zombies before, how is their performance?? OK, so that was three questions.
Looking forward to my third Love performance in a little over a year ... the suffering is soon to end!!

This is IMHO-Argent's first LP is fantastic. It very much has that Zombies flavor to it. 'Dance in the Smoke' has such a nice story line..."Every branch we'll tie someone's worry to it, We will build it and Dance in the Smoke. Imagine writing everyone's 'worry' down on a piece of paper, tieing it to a branch of a tree, and set the tree on fire. Then everyone's 'worry' would just disappear. How nice!!!
I pretty much agree with everyone else on 'G-D gave Rock 'N Roll to you', etc. The rest of Argent's LP's after the first one is 'throw up' material...gag me with a spoon LOL |

I guess I'd better mention that I do know that God Gave Rock & Roll To You is an Argent song, written by Rod Argent & Kiss only covered it. I remember when I first heard the song, it seemed kind of corny for even Argent. Now it seems even more corny. But it is kind of exciting with that great vocal. |

I'm no Kiss fan or even a big Argent fan but I liked both of those songs when Blunstone sang them. He made them sound like Zombies songs rather than 70s rock bozoism. The one big mistake was a sort of boogie woogie number that was pretty lame. But most of their material is super. Actually, if you were looking for a set of material that would go well with Forever Changes, it would be hard to do better.
The guitar player does get a little too metal at times but the main problem with the band is that Rod Argent won't shut up. A long speech between each song. At least Arthur's speeches are usually funny.
But, in the end, the current Zombies sound terrific & Arthur won't be able to coast (or collapse) if he wants to keep up. Blunstone has a bit of an odd stage presence but his voice is in great shape.

Thanks for the Zombie info John, I think I could just about tolerate Hold Your Head Up (only just) but God Gave Rock and Roll To You is a good excuse for anyone to throw up. |

Hi KJ,
The Zombies are very good, but it's really the Colin Bluntstone-Rod Argent band. Blunstone's voice is excellent and when he played "Say You Don't Mind" with a string quartet in London this summer it was sublime. Argent's keyboard contribution is good, but I could do without tracks such as "Hold Your Head Up" and "God Gave Rock 'n Roll to You" (which sound horribly dated). Other complaint is that the band play far too loud, when they're the sort of band who benefit by not doing so. If Love are on form, they should undoubtedly be top of the bill. Good as they are, it would be crazy to put the Zombies on before a classic Love performance. The only trouble is that (after Spain) Arthur may still be going through an unstable phase, and that would mean that putting Love at the top of the bill would be a risk. All the best, John E |

Hi KJ, I dont know what really happened in LA, its sounds as if the Spaceland venue itself advertised the gigs as FC and Da Capo when both where actually mixed Andmoreagain type gigs.
Here in NYC the advertising at the moment is just for the Zombies, though I think they are doing alternate headlines in different cities, dont know about SF.
A few people have posted saying they have seen the Zombies recently and the shows where good.
