I am a big fan of the band Jefferson Starship which allows you to record from the audience, as long as you don't get in the way of any one else in the audience.
I plan on seeing the Love in Oxford next week, and would like to know if I would be allowed to record the show using my Minidisc Recorder and Core Sound Mics.
Thanks, Steve. |

Posted - 09/07/2005 : 19:53:21 Right now, I think that the band need to do some guerilla marketing - to spread the word near and far that they are the business - and what better way to do that than to allow tapes to circulate which demonstrate just how hot they are without Arthur. If they could release a few tasty soundboards - with Revelation, Message To Pretty, or some of the other infrequently played songs on, then that would go a long way to convince doubters that this band is the real thing despite (or maybe because?) AL isn't with them.
As this is my first post on this forum, I guess I should introduce myself, though some of you will know me already (I certainly know some of the names that I've seen here). I'm Chris Jones, aka CJ, aka a guy who likes taking pix of the band.
You can see some of my latest pix at Torben's site on the Darlington page http://love.torbenskott.dk/tour2005/20050705_darlington.asp.
Love to all.

Rabbit Hutch??? Perhaps I should explain the comment. When we went down to see jefferson starship in Frome last year, the band hadn't been able to set up early due to a rabbit show being held in the venue that afternoon. Since then, amongst the faithful the venue is now the Rabbit Hutch and the gig known as the Rabbit Show. Quite funny really, considering the band is known for White Rabbit!!
Good luck with your emailing for permission - I also mentioned about taping to Mike when I mailed him yesterday to thank him for the Oxford show. |

The Venue and Security would have allowed taping last night, if the band would have told them it would be OK. Of course LAMS help as well
Although I am honest and will only do recordings if I have permission (which I have been trying to seek because I believe in the band and this line-up) I would not be suriprised if there are people stealth recording some of these shows, and stealth recordings are normally bad quality recordings (which don't do the band many favours). |

Posted - 07/07/2005 : 15:50:29 I think this may be a point worth looking at in the future. However, at the moment, just playing the gigs and doing their best is what is of upmost concern to the band. Sorting out whether people are allowed to tape or not will come at a later date when things are a little more settled. |

Posted - 07/07/2005 : 10:44:16 Can't we get this sorted out and have the band allow taping and write it into their contracts? A few well distributed recordings of the show in Oxford last night would very quickly dispel any erroneous notion that Love is no more. Unfortunately, Steve's rig was confiscated on the way in and had to be left in a locker till the end of the show, so I may never get to again hear perhaps my favourite Love show ever, nor will anyone else.
I can understand that the band might feel uncomforatble about recordings of less than perfect performances circulating, particularly given Arthur's current erratic performances. But then again, look at how many bands allow taping/trading - js, dead, most of the us jambands, even the harbingers of napster, metallica. Alternatively, release the soundboards officially at a reasonable price. |

Posted - 04/07/2005 : 22:38:03 The recording decision can come down to the band though- Most Venues just have the policy in place to protect those bands who do not like you recording them.
I have been to many venues and shows which have a strict "No Recording" policy, but bands like Jefferson Starship and Country Joe McDonald have it written in their contacts, that fans are allowed to audio tape and video tape their shows, despite what the venues recording policies are.
I also find the Band Managers have a great infuence of the taping policy at shows, again despite what it says on the ticket or what the venue security says... Does anyone know the name of Love's Band Manager so I can try and find them before the show in Oxford to ask for Permission?
I only make audience audio recordings (I prefer these over soundboard recordings) and I do not sell any shows I record, as it is just plain wrong. If I am told the show is NFT it will stay in my private collection, and if trades are allowed then I will perform a private trade with true fans like Ed.
I am 26, and in years to come after all these great bands disapear, I would still like to be able to let the music live on, being able to listen to performances of bands like Love without Arthur Lee, and from the reviews I have been reading, the show in Oxford should be something pretty special.
Thanks, Steve. |

Posted - 04/07/2005 : 21:52:42 Yep, 'Old Man' is right, check the details on your ticket, most say recording is not allowed..not always the band's decision on this thing. |

Posted - 02/07/2005 : 14:01:01 It looks like that is a Yes then.
I just say this because I prefer to stick my microphones to a wall (where they are in full view to the venue security and the band) rather than do stealth recordings which never sound good.
I look forward to trading :-)
Thanks, Steve. |
