He sobers up around December 1970 and is "born again". Either he was medicated in the 1970s or earlier with lithium(his mother has stated in interviews that he was bi polar) and that messsed that him up and he started self-medicating either with alcohol or drugs or both and that continues on through about 1995 when his mom gets into some Christian based rehab place.
