For me the promise of the heights that their instrumental prowess achieved on LoVE's last two recordings was amazing. Johnny, Kenny & Michael reached a level most artists never achieve. It only makes us wish we could have gotten a least another album's worth from these guys...these two tracks are FC's level of brilliance in my opinion.

Listen again and take in the instruments, individually and together...Michael especially is at the top of his game and we can see why he is in the top ten rock drummers of his era. That is not to say that Johnny and Kenny are also not at the top of their games...shear brilliance!! Bryan's brilliant strumming is the core as usual.

Laughing Stock...and arthur's ominous intro is as good as "red Telephone" or his twisted cover of "Little Red Book"

LoVE RULES!

Granted with "Four Sail" Arthur assembled stellar talent and they shine, but they never achieved the creative brillance of the original lineup...how could they?!!

hmm..well I always think of another FC. Maybe but we have what they made and that is is good. And can't anybody find those master tapes! How can they have gotten lost? Somebody wasn't thinkin'.....I guess the masters to Four Sail are gone too, eh? I would love to hear 'I'm With You' on the master.

Perhaps no other song(s) than these two define how much of a contradiction the band could be. They hadn't been in a studio since August '67; had played live no more that a half a dozen times in the previous six months; were having more of the personal and financial issues begin to choke the life out of the band; and were in the beginnings of the not to far off end for the band. Yet in two days they went in and knocked out a blazing single, both a lyric and music triumph of the highest order. How did they do this with every logical trend going against them?.....

I never fail to get a chuckle when listening to the tracking version of "Your Mind" when at the end of a smoking take and guitar solo by Johnny Arthur offered the "Echols, man, I don't understand your trip" dialogue.

Here's another favourite of mine....with the 1969 band at the peak of their powers (and giving CSNY a run for their money)...and the 'history of Love' video that goes with it is well worth watching as well:

Fantastic selections. Each one is special. They meet one of my criteria for a good song, they all make me smile.

the tracking session on the 2cd FC is a revealing listen - definitely not all sunshine and roses.

Good selections LK - to my mind, Your Mind and We was Love's most accomplished studio performance. Of course, you're right about the later band....but they too had some truly sublime moments. This one features a fine vocal, Beatle harmonies, a wonderful blending of guitars, a fine resonant bass together with some magnificent drumming:

And in Manhattan
I'll be walkin' down Broadway with you
