Posted - 17/01/2005 : 07:23:10 I don't know if this is the appropriate place for such threads, but, then, I suppose being new I'll learn as I go along. ;)
My name is Chuck. I'm 25, I live in Florida, work as a journalist, and believe Love to be the greatest band on the planet! It's really a long story about how I fell in love with Love, because, among other reasons, it took a long time. The first album I heard was "Forever Changes," which I bought on recommendation from allmusic.com, because at the time I thought The Byrds were the shît. ;) (So I come at this with a MacLean-like perspective ;)). Really I thought all the bands coming out of L.A. from '65-'67 with "The California Sound" were onto something, so I wanted to explore this phenomenon as thoroughly as I could.
When I got FC I thought it was well-constructed, though I wasn't quite sure I was ready for a orchestral rock album. Every time I listened to it, though, it grew on me. Soon thereafter I bought Da Capo, and was under the mistaken impression for years that these were the only Love records I would ever get my hands on.
Then came that bright and wonderful day when I was in a Borders in Knoxville, TN. ;) Not only did I see a greatest hits collection that included tracks from the first album, which I thought I'd never see, but I also saw the Forever Changes Concert CD, and realized that after all this time, Arthur was out of jail and kicking it again! I couldn't believe my ears! All of this ignited my passion for Love like never before, and it seems like all I've done is get my hands on Love-related material since.
There's more to my story, of course, but I'll leave it a brief snapshot at it for now. I should just say that I feel a deep connection with Arthur's music, and am anxiously awaiting the first time I can see him and his sensational band live. As I'm sure it was for all of you here who have experienced that, it will be a night I'll cherish forever.
Love is the answer! |

Posted - 17/01/2005 : 21:27:13 For me, Love is quite often the perfect musical expression of my feelings. I'm glad Arthur and his various bands over the years made the music so I didn't have to learn a bunch of instruments and make it myself. ;)
I also think the current Love (nee Baby Lemonade) is fantastic, and the fact that Echols and Randle are playing together on stage ... well, that must be like having Wilt Chamberlain play basketball on the same floor as Michael Jordan -- an amazing, transcendent event.
Thanks for the warm welcome, and I hope I encounter more and more people hip enough to be hip to Love! |

Posted - 17/01/2005 : 14:18:23 Hi Chuck...and welcome. Arthur and the band [including Johnny Echols], did a small U.S. tour Sept/Oct 2004. After being into LOVE for the longest time, I saw them twice on that tour...NY and NJ-for my first times. It's like Gill says...it's an experience you'll never forget. By the way, if you have any questions at all, don't be shy to ask. The only dumb question is the one you didn't ask LOL |
