Yeah, what's happened to Shack? Not heard anything about them for so long. Their website is gone! and there has been no activity on their myspace site for over a year!!!
Well, Shacknet seems to be working (sort of, it seems to be being transferred to another domain or something at the moment). It seems that John Head played a gig at a cafe in Liverpool last week.

And here's a list of gigs played by the pair of them this year, sadly not together so, maybe, they've had a falling out?

Posted - 19/10/2009 : 10:27:54 I love just about everything Mick Head and his brother John have ever done, from the Pale Fountains to The Red Elastic Band, I think Mick is one of the greatest songwriters of recent years.
There's (at least) 2 songs that reference Arthur directly as well, 'And Luna' on 'The Magical World of the Stands' and 'Byrds Turn to Stone' on 'Here's Tom With The Weather'.
They obviously love Love as well -- the interview with John on the Love Story DVD is wonderful -- that bit when he says he named is little boy after Arthur, it makes me go all gooey. |

I don't know.. not so good
Well, I like Shack, like I said always a good band but I guess not the sort of act who would be popular in the US? The fact that they worked with Arthur in the early 90's, when, let's be honest, his profile was pretty low, cannot be underestimated as I really think their support got Arthur back in the frame of mind of working with a band again which (apart from the spell in gaol) was fully realised when he teamed up with Baby Lemonade. |

I hope you don't mean "Hocken Hey" by Shack (well not Shack but Michael Head and the Strands - which were probably Shack if you know what I mean) Its the closest thing to "Cockney" I can think of for Shack!!!
I'm probably confusing people but I do love that song |

Yikes!
I can't think which song you mean when you mention 'Cockney'.
Shack are a band from Liverpool (made up of the Head brothers) who are huge 'Love' fans and made an album with Arthur, Live in Liverpool 1992.

Sadly, though I am rather fond of the band as musicians their music has been rather overshadowed by their fondness for illegal substances |

Shack always used to do a good version of 'A House is not a Motel', live at least. Think I have a studio version somewhere, I'll try and find it.
Meantime Here's a Love tribute for you Joe:
Love are the best group ever.

Posted - 18/10/2009 : 03:45:03 Smack Dab's cover of "Bummer in the summer" on the Love tribute We're all normal and we want our freedom is pretty appalling
Most of that tribute is appalling actually. Not as bad a tribute as the Beatles tribute Come Together, or the wretched Brittle Days (dreadful Nick Drake tribute) but pretty ghastly
Yep, whether its Teenage Fanclub doing an unrecognizable cover of "Maybe the people would be the times" or the baby girl tones of Smack Dab rendering Bummer comatose, We're All Normal And We Want Our Freedom is THERE
Surprised Arthur endorsed it in the liner notes. Appalling really. Simply ghastly

Posted - 18/10/2009 : 02:06:30 Electric Prunes does a great cover of "7 & 7 Is" ....a slow psych tune from around 2002.

I must admit that I do like the way some 80s bands interpreted some of the great songs from the 60s West Coast....often lending quite a 'gothic'and otherworldly feel to them.
Yeah, that's a good one. It's an obvious cover for them but I'm very fond of Calexico's 'alone again or'

I will listen to The Bangles version on Lala. A great website by the way if you are not hip to it. Also Skreemr.com is a great place to check out music.
