Posted - 14/05/2009 : 02:50:55 Just wondering if there have been any Remi Kabaka sightings recently? Some of you may recall that Remi Kabaka played percussion on "Everlasting First" with Arthur & Jimi Hendrix, and that in the years just before Arthur's passing, Remi resurfaced into Arthur's life, occasionally sitting in at some Love shows around L.A. A year or two ago I saw Remi sitting in with the Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden on an HBO TV special.
Remi was living in Santa Monica and I had more than a few encounters with him where we discussed his career with Stevie Winwood, The Bonzo Dog Band, Eric Clapton and many others on the British music scene. And of course we discussed the missing reels from the Love/Hendrix session at length.
But one thing we never discussed and which I've only just learned is that, according to Wikipedia, Remi Kabaka and Reebop Kwaku Baah are one and the same person!? Not only that but also Remi Kabaka Jr is the leader of the pop group The Gorillaz? I tried calling him to discuss these revelations but got no answer, so I'm not sure if the number I had for him is still good.

Posted - 15/05/2009 : 05:12:27 I was very surprised to see that Wikipedia seems to think that Rebop and Remi are one and the same. And of course other sources are picking up the (mis)information.
I was even more surprised though to read that Remi's son is in the Gorillaz. I've met Remi's wife and daughter but don't recall him ever mentioning Remi, Jr.
The Gorillaz are very popular. My kids love them.

Posted - 14/05/2009 : 18:34:42 I'm fairly sure that Remi Kabaka and Reebop Kwaku Baah aren't the same person. Reebop died in the early eighties. They both played on Jim Capaldi's Short Cut Draw Blood as well. On the same track! |
