Posted - 12/04/2009 : 06:01:44 I did a search on this and didn't find anything here about it. I heard "Orange Skies" on youtube and it sounded pretty good. This was the tour with Bryan McLean. I think it was available 3/7/09. Does anyone have it? What's the personel? |

Posted - 26/04/2009 : 12:56:58 the few times i saw/heard Arthur singing Orange Skies was a thrill. He seemed to realy enjoy it, and always doing the doood-doodly-doodly-doo at the end!

Thankfully there are TWO versions of Bryan tackling Orange Skies on ifyoubelievein
Not sure if any are from the 60s though.. I forget offhand.
Surprised Stuart isn't playing with the Love band. Any idea what Snoopys up to, if hes up to the drums?
A friend is in contact with Snoop. I'll ask.
Has Snoopy played with Baby Lem or the later Love Band? I know he tours by himself and is quite active still...traveling etc. He looked pretty fit for his part in the Love doc!!
Michael has good reason to opt out, but as Mike R. said, hopefully he'll sit in for a few West Coast shows.
Orange Skies is a difficult song to handle and requires some vocal skills...as Arthur struggled just a bit on both of Bryan's tunes for the live FC...just a little, or so it seemed to me. Still stellar though...love that DVD.

Posted - 26/04/2009 : 06:12:54 curious liner notes by Bryan on ifyoubelieve (in addition to Bryan seeing Arthur taking someone in a fight, and later being upset when recording Orange Skies on da capo):
Bryan talking about "losing touch with the unessential"
Curious thought
It seems he did reach a level of contentment after Sundazed released ifyoubelievein, and was interested in his music again
It would seem he didn't take care of himself physically unfortunately, not going to the doctor for check ups, so passed relatively young (at the disappointed age of 52) |

re: Orange Skies
"Ok" is an understatement, Joe!! I've found Arthur to handle it just FINE in his own inimitable way. But Bryan wasn't happy......glad we have both versions.

Posted - 25/04/2009 : 00:52:42 Gotta say, don't listen to Candy's Waltz too much. If I listen to any Bryan solo, tends to be ifyoubelievein
Granted, I've been listening to it for years so I haven't played it for several months
I DO tend to listen to Forever Changes quite a bit though, which is curious as I've been listening to it for 20 years and have tended to play it ever week (when possible!)
It doesn't sound too different in mono though! |

Ya, Bryan said in the liner notes that it was the only time he and Arthur almost came to blows over a song...and he felt it was out of Arthur's range. Bryan does a beautiful job on his version, doesn't he! Can't say enough about how great "andifyoubelievein" IS..........for me, because most of the songs were written in and around his time with Arthur, it ranks up their with Love's best. An essential in the Love catalog. Just my opinion, jv. You likely agree....

Think he did the gig for cash for the rent, which Arthur then failed to pay him! |

Posted - 15/04/2009 : 05:03:03 The electric guitar chords on "Orange Skies" on the Whiskey-a-go-go sound beautiful. It could be Bryan's playing, or the fact that electronic guitar tuners were available, finally. Pobably both. Now if we could just go back in time and get every rock guitarist (well, almost every) in the 60s to use a guitar tuner... |

Just put up on Youtube the Orange Skies intro tho I have to work on the second bit as the arpeggios a little different.. |

right, Joe.....andifyoubelievein is the one and only definitive Bryan record!! Beautiful and as strong as any LP I have. Brilliant!! Agreed??!!
