Love's two albums for Harvest/Blue Thumb are to be given Collectors' Choice releases next month:

It is heartening to know that this, often underrated, phase in the band's history is of continuing interest to different record companies. I don't know about anyone else but I believe that Collectors' Choice do a wonderful job on deleted back catalogues - with the recorded works of the Association, the Fifth Dimension and Jimmy Webb (to name just three) once more available in meticulously prepared packages - in this respect they are just like Sundazed.

I will definately buy these only because I am new to Love and cannot afford the expensive out-of-print versions of these albums.

I agree that it would be nice for Rhino to get everything from the original four albums to the Blue Thumb stuff, Vindicator, a proper Black Beauty release, Reel to Real, and even the wig album. Hell even Five String Serenade and Love On Eart Must Be if we want to go nuts with it.

Realistically however it would be nice for Rhino to acquire the Blue Thumb stuff along with Vindicator, and after that point the rest I guess can be left up for grabs.

Collectors Choice is a fantastic label. I tend to doubt these will sound any different than what appeared on the Hip-O Blue Thumb box, but it's nice to see these albums will be in print and easy to find.

I was really hoping to see more of Arthur's music reissued after he passed on. Looking forward to seeing what the Rhino box will have on it.

Didn't Bob Krasnow have the Hendrix/Lee trax?
Anyone have an old issue of the Castle to hand?

Hi, gang. Long time lurker.

I've made it a habit to grab every Love CD I can get my sweaty hands on, but unless these discs scream "remastered", I don't think I'll spring for them. I got the Hip-O set and that was satisfactory. And I've already got the old One-Way MCA discs. That said, I have yet to hear a CD version of "Out Here" that even comes close to the depth and warmth of the original Blue Thumb vinyl. I was separated from my vinyl for a while, but now that I got them back into my life I can see clearly the error of my ways for succumbing to the conveinence of the Compact Disc. They are handy for listening in the car, but at home, nothing's finer than putting the needle down.

"Out Here" is high on my list of Love faves. Probably second only to "Forever Changes". I really love every single note of it. I too, hope someday, Rhino can present the entire Love catalog in a sane and organized manner, and that the day will come when I will be able to walk into a USA record store and find Love albums readily available. Why is it that I have to send my money overseas to get my Arthur Lee fix? $21.99 for Vindicator? Well, it was worth every penny, but still.

I suspect that we have already had all the bonus tracks from that period that we are ever going to hear - in the form of the 1970 concert recordings on last year's 'Blue Thumb Recordings'. Although I suppose we can always hope that someone will eventually find the tapes of the Lee/Hendrix collaboration at Olympic. It is not as though Rhino managed to find any startlingly different unreleased tracks for their (extremely welcome) edition of 'Four Sail' a few years back.

KD: Makes you wonder how many times Out Here / There can
get the resiusse treatment. What's this, the 5th time ? Still
no bonus tracks - think I'll pass on this one - actually both.

Free the out takes !

My only issue with this whole thing is why not just do a deluxe edition of Out Here, and maybe a special edition of False Start the Rhino way. I really kind of wish Rhino had the rights to these two albums as well so we can at least have expanded liner notes and restored artwork on each as well as bonus tracks and maybe some studio outtakes.

Its the same with Vindicator, and hopefully one day Black Beauty. Maybe even Reel to Real with Thomasine and Bushrod as a bonus track?

One can hope it can get done the right way.
