Understand the Whiskey benefit only managed to present Arthur with a couple thousand. How can that be with posters and records and did the Whiskey not donate the venue?
Hmmnn .Surely more than 66.666 people attended.

I was there at the Whiskey benefit and loved the show. I am not surprised they only raised $2000.00. The turnout was not nearly what I expected. I was stunned that not more hollywood '60's musicians turned out. I guess Arthur was not a real nice person, to have so few people show up. I loved the show!! It demonstrated to me how really great a songwriter Arthur was, and how great a band Baby Lemonade is! Rusty did a terrific job singing lead and the whole band was excellent as usual. I've seen Love at the Henry Fonda theater, House of Blues in Hollywood and Anaheim, Spaceland in Silverlake, the Wilshire Ebell theater in L.A.--if they were playing, I was there! My only fear is that Baby Lemonade will get tired of performing the same songs, and move on. I was surprised at the Whiskey that the organizers were not real accomodating, and that Baby Lemonade was so standoffish after the show. I bought a poster and one of the unreleased 45's from the 60's they were selling. The woman who had organized the benefit acted like I was a real pain in the ass when I tried to get them autographed. I don't know if Baby Lemonade was tired, irritated, or what was the reason they didn't come out. I'm sure it was a lot of work to put the show together--the opening group worked hard, Willy Chambers was outstanding.

Yeh i'd forgotten about all those other bands you mentioned allan. I guess one excuse may be that they simply don't know of the situation with Arthur, or am i being very naive there?!! Again maybe i'm being very naive but surely as a musician when you get the opportunity to help one of your so-called inspirations you would make every effort to help. Sorry i'm just thinking aloud really and have very little understanding of how these types of things come together. I imagine you need a very strong driving force to pull everyone together in the same direction and to put all the hard organizational work into practice.

This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....

yes but...

at least a lot of people got together to show solidarity and their own regard for Arthur. That must mean a lot.

as the good captain told me:
Love over gold

Keep on shining

Yeh its funny allan how so many bands are quick to name love as an inspiration yet we have seen nothing yet over here in the UK (although was there some type of gig in dublin??). On the forever changes live dvd graham coxon appears on singing cowboy and we have seen covers by belle and sebastien. Surely a few top acts could get together and sort something?

This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....

And we in Britain are still waiting for the chance to BUY a ticket, and help the cause...Shack seem to be our only hope of SOMEONE promoting something here...isthere anybody out there?

I have deleted my somewhat reactionary reply to poetry out of respect to the passing of Arthur Lee 8/4/06

Peace and Love

You can't reap what you don't sow is the message I PICK UP.

finely, what you and everyone else did was indeed admirable. no need for you to justify anything in my opinion!

I wasn't perhaps specific enough in my original post and so I just wanted to be clear that when I said a couple I meant it in the Literal sense. $2,000.00. ok. peace all and continued prayer for Arthur.

It was wise of you finely free to delete your initial response to this thread and post a new more diplomatic one. In that first reply you suggested Arthur was lucky to ever see a penny, I have to agree with you, I envisioned as much from the get go. Enjoy. Original response was very expository, too bad no more than perhaps 45 people had the opportunity to view it. I so wish i had saved it, your slip was showing.
Ever imagine the peopple who came were doing it for Arthur, regardless of how he has hurt any of us, and not your nostalgia? peace and love.

So many people worked so hard to put this benefit together, it just infuriates me when we're questioned about the money raised. We all donated our time and considerable efforts to make the concert something memorable, and we did the best we could. Seeing Johnny and Michael Stuart on the same stage with Baby Lemonade singing all those wonderful songs was truly incredible...and sitting with Bryan's mother while listening to them perform his beautiful compositions was nothing short of inspirational.

Most of the people on that stage have endured some horrendous treatment from Mr. Lee, and yet they still gave of themselves to help him in his time of need. That is truly admirable. Hopefully, it was appreciated, too!

LOVE and peace

I was there and believe me I'm surprised they did that well. I saw a big stack of unsold posters when I left and not many folks bought the records either.
