I recently took a trip to Arthur's old street in Laurel Canyon and viewed his old home overlooking L.A.
Quite the mysterious place if I say so. I want to check out the Vindicator house next, I understand it may be somewhere on Mulholland.
I went to that cool little market where all of the rockers got their drugs and groceries and Arthur beat the hell out of that guy who stole his money (per Stuart-Ware's book).

Anyone else ever checked out some of his old haunts ? |

Posted - 05/08/2006 : 00:08:10 Oh, other questions answered, no, I had little interaction with anyone except Snoopy... I wish I had had more. Of course I enjoyed being part of that band. Interviews are fine with taste. I think that covers it right now. JD |

Posted - 05/08/2006 : 00:02:51 Many questions... first to all that asked the answer is YES. second, the directions, were a little dirt road off to the left and upto the house at the top.. and yes, that was the movie it was in. I have a hard time fathoming Suzanne in any videos.. because video wasnt around then.. she was gone I think by 1970 in my limited knowledge... unless they were a re-release of some film footage that existed for ? reason.. More likely to me, Arthur would have picked someone that looked like her as he was very in love with her back then.. but all this is supposition... video was not apart of the promotion of a record until years later... I think Venet enters the picture on the "California Bloodlines" album. The "Signals" album reminds me of Stoneponeys, a little bit of Dino Valenti and of course Johnny Cash, but Stewart actually hits the right notes....Superb album. Do you remember the music? All the best Maximilian
I vaguely remember it. I think I may have asked JS about it once, and he was not very enthusiastic about it. I remember it being sort of folk rocky. |

The She Comes in Colors video she is nude and dancing.

Thomas, do you mean the "Mind and we belong together" video? To Jay: Would you consider participating in an interview? I will soon start writing the first book in danish about psychedelic music and thought about interviewing you, Michael Stuart and Johnny Echols. The questions for the interview will circle around what psychedelic music is, how production was made for that purpose and so on. Are listening to John Stewart/Buffy Fords "Signals through glass" folk psych on Capitol from 1968. Super acid folk. Does anybody know this?
I used to have that, its sort of folkish, it may have been produced by Nik Venet, I don't remember. I know John Stewart started working with Venet around this time. |

Suzanne was the girl in the She Comes In Colors video if I am not mistaken.
I didn't ask about any women, that was Keith maybe, but I appreciate the info. Thats a great tale however, about the cars and then coming to his home and finding him in that state. I guess that sums it up. Its just like damn, its the 1960's.....take full advantage. I think I would have lived it up myself just a bit more, but then again living it up is doing what it is you want to do.
At the very least, did you enjoy being a part of Love, and did you have much interaction with any of the original members ?

Posted - 02/08/2006 : 23:54:31 Hi Jay
Maybe you can help me out...
I used to live on Wonderland from April to Nov of '70 (actually right next door to Carole King). If you go all the way up Wonderland it ends on a bluff where you can look out and sometimes see Catalina. Let's call that looking out from the right side. If you take Lookout all the way up, it will also end at or very near that same bluff-let's call that looking out from the left side.
Wouldn't Blue Jay Way be above where Lookout ends, accessible only with the little dirt road?
If Blue Jay Way has the indoor/outdoor swimming pool, it would be the same house in "The Trip" with Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, and Dennis Hopper, also as Eoin has stated.

Posted - 02/08/2006 : 19:46:59 What about what girl Thomas? Arthur had a girl at the time.. I dont remember her name.. but beautiful and grazy,, mabe a Michele melinda or Stefani name.. Oh, got it! Suzzanne.. blond.. long straight hair,, slinky walk and ways.. she had an Afgan dog that looked just like her.. silky, parted hair..multi colored blond. I can see her now, I think she was very important to A., So, later, when he had lost her.. and lived in Coldwater Cyn., I guess I was out of the band.. or not.. but went to visit.. and Arthur was all messed up on days of coke and who knows what.. the funishings were all broken up or gone.. maybe this is just when she left (or what she left).. he said " ah f**k it , Im going to build a whole new house underground".. there's some insight. anyway the girl was always in my eye and everyone elses for she was very beautiful and sexy.. I assume.. VERY high maintenence! As for "free girls", there was the normal amount of groupies and friends to be expected.. I was married to an extremely beautiful half Mexican , half Irish girl named Eileen.. she was my first true love and we lasted 13 years.. so I didn't mess up toooooo much, but there were those occasions that were unavoidable... that eventually caused the end for us.. my fault, bad boy! Lesson learned! The house at the top of Lookout was very neat and decorated well.. good quality and classy taste... I think it was featured in some famous movie.. maybe Warren Beatty.. dont remember.. Arthur had a black and silver 1952 (I think) Bentley.. we used to drive to gigs in.. and a 911 porche which he would race up the dirt road to the house..
As for other interests, I dont remember seeing any.. Smoke alot of blond hash and write songs.. hang with his girl.. fairly private guy. |

Posted - 02/08/2006 : 03:06:44 Yes Eoin. I asked Arthur about it when I saw him after the gig at Town Hall in NYC in '04. It seemed to stir him positively as he looked right back at me and asked "Were you there?". I could actually see him remembering.
And by the way, the first house in the opening scene of The Trip was The Psychedelic Temple. Look very closely at the sign next to the door as Peter Fonda was knocking. The 'Temple' was quite famous back then.
No...I wasn't there either .
