Posted - 29/05/2013 : 21:55:52 I just posted a new blog about religion here in Guyana. It's more of a photo blog showing the diversity of religion in this small country.

Posted - 07/06/2013 : 23:05:58 Thanks Rocker! Guyana certainly has its problems and is far from perfect, but considering the incredibly diverse mix of cultures that have shaped this nation, it's doing pretty well!
All major religious holidays are marked too, and by the whole country.

Posted - 07/06/2013 : 20:43:15 kula..Read the blog..I thought it gave a very good overview of how religion wends its way through Guyana. It's a testament to religious freedom that there are multiple ways that the Guyanese have in expressing their faith in God. That's the way it should be and I hope it fares well there for a long long time. |

Yeah - quite frankly it isn't discussed much at all, and the site of Jonestown is now an overgrown mess from what I've heard. Sometimes visitors will take a trip up there (it's in the north of the country) but overall it's an expensive trip and off the beaten track.
Guyana tourism had considered making it a tourist site, but I'm not sure how far they'll get with that.
It's a fascinating episode, and people have mentioned to me that at the time the govt. of Guyana were happy to have American citizens based there, as it was near to the Venezuela border and as the land was disputed, their thinking was that Venezuela wouldn't try anything as they may have to face the wrath of the US!
