I write a regular blog. I've just finished one which summarises an interview I carried out with a former UN Peacekeeper in Rwanda and Bosnia.

I hope you don't mind me posting it on here, but I try to publicize my blog as much as I can and I'm always happy to receive feedback, constructive criticism, or just criticism if you so feel.

Thanks,

He is now the head of security at the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh

Looks like he's at the right place at the right time! Good luck with #3. And, of course, my respects to the Major.

Great line that....written by a genius.

No actually Major Ezaz is retired from the military. He is now the head of security at the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh. That is how I met him, during my time as a teacher there. I found out he had been a peacekeeper in Rwanda and as I had written a thesis on the genocide and taught there for a year I decided it would be fascinating to speak with him about his experiences. So that's why I did the 1st intereview. Then he told me he'd also been in Bosnia and LIberia with the UN, so Bosnia was interview #2

It now means I have to go back and get interview #3 about Liberia!

john..would the Major ever get posted to Syria? I wish him well if he does justb like all those whom put their lives on the line by just being in that part f the world. Right, tumult wil always be with us and like someone said the 'news today will be the movies for tomorow'.

Thanks Rocker. Sad thing is it seems like there will always be a need fo some kind of a global peace keeping force. From both my conversations with Major Ezaz I'm still very dubious of whether the UN is that force. Many of the individuals do a great job, but as an organisation it is so constricted by politics. Syria is the perfect example right now.

Well done. The world has its dangerous places and yet we need individuals like the Major to be in those places. Soem of what you report was truly harrowing. War is hell. Your piece comes right after my reading of the kidnapping for exorbitant ransoms of individuals that is going on Eritrea and Ethiopia. And apparently the UN is having a very hard time getting to grips with it. It's practically out of control. I wouldn't be surprised if that's next on tkis agenda. And they already have events in nmali to keep them occupied. Ok john hang in and stay safe.
