Eoin...Gethsemane has been a rumor for a long time. The band did a couple more songs after FC that were not included on the FC LP (Your mind-and we belong togther) and another one (can't remember right now) so I think the rumor came about because of this.

Well, I did hear a certain guitarist, say quite recently that 'Gethsemene' was his album (with a few other 'Love' members on it, not AL) but that it didn't ever come to fruition. |

Caryne, I take it that you mean Johnny? "Gethsemane" has been something of an obsession of mine since about 1968 (Bryan's solo album was too from its mention in Zigzag in 1971 - so I settled for that one being achieved with the release of "Ifyoubelievein"). I was hoping someone would interview Johnny and maybe get some sensible answers to the important questions which Arthur won't entertain. Can you elaborate, please? |

John, the mystery and enigma that is Gethsemane has been a bit of an obsession for me, too. According to the Castle and Barney Hoskyns book, there were 8 songs by Arthur ready for the album (not including the MacLean songs that appeared on ifyoubelievein). These tracks are: The Time Has Come For Some Counting To Be Done, Sixth Cents, Freeway Flyers, Peaceful Times Again, Uptown N' Down, and the jointly -credited Sanctuary (Lee/Echols), and The Outlaw in Me (Lee/Maclean)...I agree that Johnny Echols should be asked point-blank about these tracks, to see if they were ever actually recorded. Wouldn't that be incredible if they were dug out of some vault fully-formed, completely mixed and magical, sounding like a proper FC sequel? I guess we can all dream, anyway....

Thanx Lizzy! (The Brian Wilson Smile-esque element is pretty titilating, eh?)

Yes, it would be pretty amazing. Although in Johnny's post he claims Gethsemane is HIS "magnum opus" which would suggest little involvement from Arthur. This is also quite strange if we are to conclude that Gethsemane was in fact dominated by compositions by Johnny Echols - the follow up to FC without (much) contribution from the two FC contributors. All very mysterious. Let's hope we get more info out of him! |

I think Johnny mentioned that Gethsemane was a solo project for him. It was never going to be a Love record, hence no involvement from Arthur or Bryan. |

Hmm, if it's a solo project for Echols, I wonder what happened to the eight above-mentioned Arthur songs? Are they myth? Did they never even reach demo stage? We're talking absolute prime period here, when they were doing Your Mind and We and The Castle....
