Before the concert Arthur was invited to do an interview on Norwegian national radio (NRK1) . The interview took place in the rather posh Hotel Norge as part of the grand opening of the Ole Blues Music Festival. The city of Bergens culture elite were gathered and I guess most of them heard ”Forever Changes” for the first time, and got a bit of Love’s history told by Mr. Lee himself. A really nice happening mostly due to the magnificent interviewer Bård Ose and of course Arthur himself who was in a very good mood. Arthur told us the story of how he got The Doors their record contract, the first Hendrix recording, that Hendrix copied Arthur image ” but he wasn’t big enough to fill my shoes”. That the Beatles had Brian Epstein working for them, while his strategy was to wear different shoes to draw attention to himself on the subject why Love didn’t succeed in the 60’s. Arthur continued to put down new bands for just ”standing there”while on stage . Arthur himself made a big number out of his own wild show –well ok. While asked about his sixties recordings he preferred to look to the future where surely greater things than ”Forever Changes” would materialise – he had already 3 cds worth of recordings in the can!!

The concert was at Ole Bull Teater and 500 lucky people had gotten their tickets (almost sold out). The local press had been doing a great job in promoting the concert, even getting an interview with Robert Plant where he told us about Love’s history and the respect he had for them. The set started a bit slow but quickly loosened up as Arthur started ”movin’around ”(?). The sound was clear, but not quite loud enough and I thing Mike struggled a bit with this. The band is unbelievable tight and Mike really shone during his solos. Arthur’s harmonica used for jamming parts is getting really interesting. Old Man was dedicated to Mike and while presenting the band Arthur almost choked Chapple while introducing him as MY FRIEND Arthur (and Rusty) smiled alot this evening and he obvioulsy had a great time and of course so had we. The concert was professionally taped and filmed so maybe something will be released in the future. Harald Bratseth
