The latest issue of R2-Rock & Reel mag features the Fairport Cropredy Convention and Richard Thompson interview. Also included is the "UN-HERD...16" full CD of many artists that appeared there.
Looks pretty cool!

Just wanted to know..so what do you guys think was the creme de la creme work of Fairport??? Their crowning achievement. After looking through the albums I have, I've realized that I appreciate their works so much as well as Steeleye after the Beatles. |

I would say their debut....with Judy Dyble.......and then all the ones they did with Sandy Denny: Holidays; Unhalfbricking; Liege and Lief and Rising For The Moon. I just wonder whether there has ever been a finer vocal performance in the folk rock sphere than the one she did for A Sailor's Life. As I never tire of mentioning, I was lucky enough to see her four times between 1970 and 1977. For her later performances, that wonderfully pure voice of hers had acquired a huskier quality....almost certainly from heavy smoking....but she was still great.......and of course, she is still ever so sadly missed. |

YEP! ...what you said, J9! Holidays is a personal favorite, but who can really choose?!

Very good....and personally for me I go with Rising for the Moon then it's hard to separate Nine, Rosie and L&L....I realized going through my albums that I had "Expletive Delighted" and "Bonny Bunch of Roses"...haven't listened to them for a while!..right, Denny's voice is absolutely mesmerizing... |

I just obtained some Strawbs...BRILLIANT! None from the Sandy Denny era.
I got --
"Grave New World" "Dragonfly" "Bursting At The Seams"
SO great and unique with that British sense of combining folk and rock. VERY GOOD!
I find the "Bursting At The Seams" album to have more of a BYRDS/KINKS vibe going on...great harmonies.
The other two have more of a Fairport traditional but cutting edge sound.... but then nothing about the Strawbs is "traditional"! Trying to compare them to anyone is fruitless and a bit insulting... they are the Strawbs.
ANy others I need to get other than ALL!!!
Here is "Flying" with a BYRDS vibe..... <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZCpVM8ld18>
I love that Beatle sitar psychedelic sound on "Queen Of Dreams" (Grave New World!)

they're such a unique band..can't quite put my finger on it but their arrangements and their "beat" are just so unusual at times... |

Pure British sensibilities....sometimes i hear Fairport, sometimes the Byrds, sometimes Cat Stevens, sometimes Ian Hunter...I hear Jack Bruce a lot with that unique music and Pete Brown lyrics... sometimes the Kinks or Tull....
But still all their own sound.
